SPOT

Super Mario WorldStandardWork in ProgressDemoScreenshots

Hi there, I had no plans for this C3 until I remembered I was currently working on a romhack which has actually a good bunch of levels already made so I guess it's time to show it.

SPOT, standing for Standard Platforming, Obviously Traditional, is an unambitious project I worked on during the last two months. As its name and the screenshots imply, it's all about the good old traditional platforming so aside a sprinkle of coding, don't expect anything novel.

Instead, this project is the opportunity for me to put altogether levels from various scrapped projects (including unfinished levels from Nova Concept) I had since I started SMW romhacking almost 10 years ago. I also plan to include some of my contest entries like these ones. Since all these scrapped projects and contest entries are quite varied, the final product may have a lot of variety in terms of level design ranging from the pure traditional platforming design to the slightly gimmick-based design and perhaps some experimental ideas.

At the time I'm currently writing this, I don't really have a goal in terms of length but I already have 13 levels (including the first world of the hack) completed and quite a lot of ideas to implement. Aimed difficulty is Standard: Hard; albeit you may find a few Standard: Very Hard levels and some kaizo-ish elements like goal traps and some fast-paced levels but always made to be approachable for a Standard player.

Until the next time, have a nice C3! :)

Nitrogen hack spotted!! (pun)

I give the title a big thumbs up for being an acronym, there's always more room for names like that.

And these screenshots paint a pretty picture of what's to come! Aside from your own words, haha. Repurposing scrapped or unfinished levels is such a great thing, and the way that it's being handled here sounds really fun.

Looking forward to seeing more, good luck with your unambitious project!

Thank you for your reply! I admit the acronym of the hack came in my mind just before creating this thread lol, but it gives more character than anything else I could have found as a title so I'll keep this name.

Speaking of that, I have good news!

I worked putting altogether a demo of the hack on the last day, and you can play it now at the SMW hack section!
Link to the demo

This was a pleasant surprise!

Playing through the entire demo was just as pleasant, I love what each level had to offer. It's traditional for sure, but some of gimmicks and setups are things I can't believe I haven't seen in a hack yet.
Behind the Bushes
is a good example of that, it's all simple yet very effective.

It also took me a hot minute to find
the secret in ODD AND EVEN
, I knew it was
above one the cement blocks the Blue Koopas were situated on
, haha.

Thanks for putting together this enjoyable demo, Nitrogen!

Honestly relatable, these kind of ideas for acronyms tend to appear so suddenly. #smrpg{haha}
