my pit hack so far - Island of Infestation

Super Mario WorldKaizo/PitWork in ProgressScreenshotsVideos

After much contemplation, I've decided to post progress on my pit hack over the past year. It's nothing too groundbreaking, but I think it will be different than other pit hacks here.

I do have some ambitions for story and such, but I'm not prepared to showcase that.
Basically you end up on an island that you have to save from a munc
j
her infestation.

Everything you see here will or already look different.
This is going from now to when I started.
Here's the first level, I made it yesterday.

It looks like this now.

Here's a level that will be later in the hack. You've been sacrificed to the muncher gods.

Please excuse that the video quality will get progressively worse further down this thread.

Here's another level that will be early in the hack.

I learned swag shell tricks :) I did do aesthetic changes since then, still working on it.

and now, the first level I made for it.

Kinda torn on which palette to use, let me know what y'all think.

Anyways thanks for reading this very improvised thread. I hope to finish this someday.
Bye bye.

Special thanks: ChutacoackoPlayz and A Random Taser.

Glad to be see a rise of pithacks as of late. I am seeing a few breaks relating to keys and jumping above the level a lot in the first video, but I'm in love with the Anon-palette level.

Well done!

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

I like the hammer brother level, could be a good concept in an RTA context. :)
Oh hey, a pit hack after all the easiest kaizo hacks is a lovely surprise. Those levels are really cool, and I dig the aesthetics in the first video, but I have to agree with DDV regarding some spots being cheesable with key jumps (a well placed ceiling usually fixes that).
As for the forest's palette, it depends if your intent is to emulate a dark forest or not. I personally think it's fine as it is.

gj!
Oh, a new pit hack is brewing :o

The first video looks like a bunch of fun little key tricks. The beginning is nothing too spectacular, but overall solid. I don't understand what's happening at 0:46 though, why don't you just spinjump up the ledge instead of doing the (admittedly cool-looking) acrobatics you do in the video? The hyperspeed net glitch is always funny to see and the custom note block makes it even funnier, it's just a shame it's over so quickly :/ Regarding the cape room: Why is the flower there?
The second video reminds me a lot of Wrath 1 in The End, but without the RNG (which I'm very glad about lol). Also I like that you embrace the pause button. It's a good button :)
The third video is probably my favorite of the bunch. Custom sprites in pit hacks are very rare so I'm just happy to see some experimentation with them, especially since you don't seem to go overboard on difficulty. Overall, the design style of this room reminds me more of toolless Kaizo hacks than of the stereotypical pit hacks.
4th and 5th video: Mostly fairly classic setups, but the chuck at 0:21 in the 4th video and the grey platform at 0:18 and the falling koopa at 0:26 in the 5th video were nice touches that I don't think I've seen like that before. Also regarding the palette question: Middle one gets my vote.

Thanks for sharing this; it's nice to see some more pit activity. Also, if you keep track of that, I'm quite curious: How many rerecords so far, roughly?
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the feedback! #tb{^V^}

Thanks Daizo and Katerpie, I am aware of the breaks, I was just trying to figure out the aesthetics and didn't fill in the gaps I made. actually I put in invisible checkpoints I totally did #tb{TwT}

Thanks for the longer critique HF. I do want to make the net part longer and more humorous. This hack will have more custom stuff, one of my goals for this hack was to innovate. I started making this hack after I cleared Item Abuse so the older levels are kinda just my favorite tricks repeated.
I haven't been keeping track of rerecords but adding up the movie files I have backed up, it's 15624. This is just an estimate but maybe 25k rerecords.

Anyway, I'll admit I don't know very much about this Pit stuff, but your stuff looks quite neat, Marc.

I love the skull block that you've drawn. I wish you good with this funny project. #smrpg{y}

ummm munchers just live in there????? please don't call them a pest????????

also as for the palette choice, option 2 seems best to me
Bye c3, thanks all.
I began making the intro cutscene but I ran out of time to show it off here.
