What are some hacks you were excited for but were sadly never completed?
There's the obvious ones like Brutal Mario or VIP 6, but there's some less well-known stuff.
I guess this could also double as a SMW hack lost media thread, if there's a hack that was finished but is lost.

The Classic Creative Reassembly. This one always looked sick, but it's been 8 years since a post in that thread, so it's safe to say it's abandoned.
Super Endoplasm World Demo of a VIP inspired hack. The creator was online somewhat recently so I have a tiny amount of hope for this one, but I still don't think anything will come of it
Super Mario Worldwide 3. While there's no demo, the creator did a dev commentary of the first two a long time ago, and showed what little there was of it. I enjoyed 1 and 2 so a 3rd would have been cool to see.
Ninji Jump Alpha. Never actually played this one, but I always thought the screenshots were really pretty looking.

Well that's all that I can recall. As for a potential lost media one, I remember a screenshot of a title screen and the enemy sprites were replaced with anime girl faces, and it was in some kind of fleshy looking cave. Maybe I'm getting Mandella Effect'ed but I swear I saw something similar to that.
Makjang Mario is one I fondly remember to this day that I wanted to see finished (if nothing was lost). Sure, someone tried to remake it, but the original version is far superior.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but when I first watched WP's Majkang Mario vids back in Sept.-Dec. 2013 and asked him in the comments what happened to the hack, he told me he had to format his PC and lost everything. For some reason however, I cannot find his reply or my comment at all! However, someone else here said his PC crashed. Maybe that's why he formatted it?

Also, speaking of Dual, I asked him back in July 2022 if he had the MMLs for the OST, but sadly, he told me he lost that years ago, so it's safe to say the whole hack's gone forever too #w{:<}:

hi, unfortunately i lost them many years before. i'm okay with the songs converted to txt/brr by SPCtoMML, but i'm not sure if the tool will generate something actually usable; i heard its output is inaccurate and not optimized.

Seeing the mention of Cool or Cruel made me remember how much i wanted to see a Kaizo version of the level Way Cool :(
Super Mario Odyssey, truly the greatest pain for me never seeing it getting finished.

VIP Mario 6 of course is also really annoying, considerding is was so close to completion.

Oh and of course the classic Brutal Mario, even if there is a completed fan version, it doesn't really fit to the build up carol has provided.
Not sure if it's cancelled but FPI's hack, The Second Reality Project 3
I was Ecstatic when he updated his Website back in 2021 saying it's in production but there hasn't been any updates since.
Hopefully it's still in the works.

Super Mario World Fragmented World is one I'm really sad hasn't had any further progress, it's just so well made.

Super Legendary Bros is another I'm gutted is cancelled. There was so much potential there.

Super Mario Outbreak had such an amusing storyline referencing staying home in 2020, it's not like Gamma V to cancel a hack considering she usually finishes them.

And Super Mario Star Seeker... it is without doubt one of the most unique Mario hacks, embraces it's Super Mario 64ness and executes it pretty much dead on. It's sad that there has been nothing on it, especially considering it had a preview level.
hyper mario world 7 by haimari, a second mario think by talkhaus, super mario travellers by stivy and smw piranha island 2 by pokerface. There are others that I have in my head but I don't know if they were canceled since their authors have not confirmed if they were canceled or not.
Brutal Mario was officially cancelled by Carol back in 2020, who decided to focus their efforts on raising their child.
