That's actually a thing already done for SMW, but I guess it's nice for you to re-bring the concept back. Really good.
Ports are real good.

Interesting idea. I know that people have done hacks that are supposed to be essentially mission pack sequels to SMW before, but hey, more levels seems like a win in my book Those original compositions sound really nice as well; while it seems odd to me not to keep the original soundtrack when the graphics are the same, SMW's soundtrack was pretty bland overall, so spicing it up with better music is good.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
The truth is i think i was a bigger fan of smb3 than smw, i like smw but i think that nowadays i like smb3 more because of how revolutinary it was at the time, but i still find this hack perfect for smw fans Who want to see more of your favorite game with a level design very similar to that Nintendo with New soundtracks

I am aware of previous attempts and have played some of them, but they have never felt very Nintendo-y or SMW-y at its core; they usually were a modern interpretation of a possible sequel, while my hack aims to be as traditional as possible in design, taking as many notes from the original as possible. I hope you like it! #smrpg{y}

Music is what I do best, so having a vanilla-ish hack without any custom music or compositions would just be shooting myself in the foot, lol. Besides, after hearing the songs for so many years in base SMW, we could probably use some more songs. I appreciate the compliments! #smrpg{<3}

I think SMB3 as a whole has a lot better design philosophy than SMW, which would make sense since Nintendo had more experience on the NES hardware as opposed to the new SNES hardware, but I still enjoyed SMW for what it is, a lot. I guess you could call this hack a somewhat of a tribute to me playing SMW and experiencing the levels for the first time. It has been really fun to make, and I hope it's been fun to play as well. Thank you!
This is exactly as advertised. More SMW. I enjoyed the ports, and they fit the vanilla assets well.

I would like to see more variety to the level design. Even SMW has gimmicks.

I really enjoyed playing through this short hack and hope to see more levels in the future, as I am a big fan of vanilla levels that are very close to the original game. Although you are using original palettes, graphics and sprites, your hack has its own style, especially with regard to the decoration, like grass or little fences. The difficulty is perfect for me.

I think your hack could have used the original music, but nevertheless your music is nice too!
This looks a lot like a remake of Super Mario World, good job on this project and the songs! hope to see more levels in the future.

Tried this demo quickly and enjoyed it! I like how despite not using custom palettes at all, you took the liberty to decorate the levels, which is a nice touch. The songs are also great as well!

I was wondering if you for some reason enabled custom palettes for any reason in the levels seeing how the palettes are totally vanilla, so I opened the hack in LM and nope! Nothing at all

My Mode 0 guide.

My Discord server. It has a lot of archived ASM stuff, so check that out!

Played through this quickly, and it was pretty fun! As hacks get more and more gimmicky and extravagant, we're coming full circle with a renouveau of very vanilla-adjacent hacks, and it's nice.

While some of the levels feel a little VLDC-y, Mt. Cocoa 2 and Ice Cream Vista in particular stood out to me as being (decorations aside) very SMW-y. Like in that b3133 kind of way where if I didn't know the game well enough, I could be convinced it's just another SMW level.

There definitely will be more variety, don't worry; This demo is mostly a concept teaser for what's to come. =P
Thank you NP! #smrpg{<3}

In an earlier response I said why I was willing to move more towards a custom soundtrack than to the original, although if a vanilla song fits well for a level, I'll probably stick with it!
Thanks for the compliments Chris, I appreciate it! #smrpg{<3}

I'm not sure if I'd call this a remake. It's more like an interpretation of what a potential level expansion pack for SMW would be. Thank you lo fang! #smrpg{<3}

Making a hack stand out without custom graphics or palettes is surprisingly hard, lol. While I do intend on keeping the palettes vanilla for the most part, sometimes having a new palette can be a nice change to make the levels feel more unique. I'll try to keep it to a minimum though, hehe. Thank you Anas! #smrpg{<3}

And that's exactly what I'm aiming for! (sorta). Having people believe the levels are kind of like an extension of SMW is what I'm planning, which means making it as approachable as possible in terms of difficulty and design. I dread having to design later world levels for this very reason, heh. Of course, fun is still at the forefront though. Thank you bebn! #smrpg{<3}
Reminds me of old-school Japanese ROM hacks like Super Marina World...

Very interesting to play!

“Even if you personally are so dissatisfied with life that you want the world to end, surely the cruel reality is that it will continue on, unchanging. All the better for someone perfectly content, like me.”
Aya Shameimaru, Touhou Suzunaan ~ Forbidden Scrollery
Evil King's Batallion makes a fantastic use the vanilla guitar. So does the Bowser Map theme.

Coconut Island is like a tropical-themed world or something?

Fantastic unsampled rendition of the iconicc Master Descends from Mountains theme, btw.

I'll play your fun hack in a few days, so expect feedback coming very soon.
I just gave your hack a quick run. I will say before anything that I am actually doing a hack similar in concept to yours (though it is only 2 levels long right now), so this project did intrigue me. The first thing I will say is that I love the original soundtrack you have made for this project! It has a quality to it that is reminiscent of what Nintendo would have made back then and evoke an nice atmosphere for the included stages– especially the athletic theme for Mt. Cocoa stages (bar the Fortress); they have a calm but peppy energy to them and I would say I prefer this over the original game's athletic theme. The one partial exception I would make to this would be in Ice Cream Valley 1, where the oriental theme is nice but thematically feels out of place.

When it comes to the level design, I do feel that the stages are easy overall (bar Cocoa Fortress) and most lack a clear focus (bar Cocoa Secret). Taking Cocoa Fortress as an example, it first introduces the Wooden Spikes before moving onto Sparkies, then Wooden Spikes again, then Bowser Statues, and finally Sparkies before the stage ends with the boss. While the idea of platforming around Sparkies is developed at times and especially in the optional 3-Up Moon room, I feel that its potential is not realized because of all of the extraneous ideas exist separately from it. I would personally recommend expanding on the platforming segments around Sparkies and using one of the secondary ideas to contribute to doing so.

Overall, I have a good experience with the demo. I look forward to seeing more from this project in the future.
My body is READY!!!!
Does the "more" include more decor? :P It's alright if the flat ground is just ground sometimes. ;)

Cute little demo overall with nice music. Just some feedback as food for thought since you say your aim is to be "More SMW" or an expansion: the levels do feel much more dense than the base game's design--the enemies and terrain is laid out more tightly in your hack than in Vanilla--I think if you put a bit more space between things it will be closer to the original style. Another thing I noticed is a lot of your coins are eye-level (one tile off the ground), Vanilla SMW makes you work for the coins by jumping and stuff!

But nice stuff, keep it up. #smrpg{y}
