hi (a new Overworld sprite tool + 2 unreleased sprites from 2019) - Summer 2024

Bowsie is such a cute name for an overworld sprite tool! I honestly don't know how widely used overworld sprites actually were in the past. I feel like they've always been a pretty underutilized feature, all things considered. I'm curious to see if a new OW sprite tool could change anything about that.

Hmm. That's a big change from the past, when stopping standards used to feel like they were forced down by a committee. (being the staff team at the time) I'm glad you're open-ended on what's to come for those sprites.

Now that I've got the attention of Mr. Asar himself, I'm going to announce that I have now uploaded the source to GitHub. You can check it out here, feel free to pitch in with improvements and stuff because as the readme says it's pretty volatile and I'm not really a software engineer lmao

I remember seeing some broken gif of the snow Pokey in the staff discord or something, nice to see it working properly

I don't really care for OW sprites but this tool seems nice and hopefully it satisfies the people who've been asking for it for years.

It's wonderful to see gaps in hacking tools being filled, and the fact that you did it in the disaster of a language that is C++ makes it even more impressive! The vanilla-adjacent sprites are a treat too, and have so much design potential with how well they mesh with vanilla sprites. Lots of great stuff!

As everyone else has already said, this is so cool! Huge news for all the overworld (and overworld sprite) enthusiasts out there. I have a feeling that people are gonna get so much mileage out of this tool, congrats on completing it!

Same goes for the other two sprites you finished, it's crazy to think about how long ago 2019 was... But now they're here, ready to appear in someone's hack!
