Those of you in the audience who are above the age of 3 and a half may remember this dewy-eyed C3 thread that we made back in the beginning of 2024 - how foolish we were thinking that our hack would be submitted to the section directly after release. Six months later, after some more toiling in the horrific dungeons of Golden Egg, and thanks to the dedicated baserom management from the ever steadfast and wizened Blue Leaf, we are happy to finally present V1.1 of Flutter! At last, we will be submitting the hack to the YI hack section officially.
If you somehow missed the other two C3 threads on this hack - Flutter! is a YI romhack created by myself, Blue Leaf, Lazy, and Medic. The hack features 30 stages and includes traditional and classic design, Kaizo style platforming, puzzles that abuse unusual game mechanics, and everything in between.
So why a new thread for C3? Well for starters, the original hack release definitely had a lot of breaks and things that we wanted to fix - as time went on, a fairly significant amount of things were fixed or tweaked. The hack not being in the section for many months probably prevented it from getting some traction as well. Essentially, you can think of the time between the original February C3 post and now as a trial-period. Today, however, the definitive version of the hack is finally here. To celebrate, we’ve created this trailer, which is extremely off-brand for us, but ya know... So is us hacking YI…
You can download the hack Here, which by some miracle, will link you to an actual SMWC submission instead of the mysterious and mystical land of Lazy’s filebin.
If you need help patching the rom, please contact an SMWC admin. No actually I’m kidding, just read the YI FAQ.
The hack has been tested on Snes9X, bsnes/higan, and an original SNES. At the time of writing, it has NOT been tested on a Super NT, so play on that at your own risk.
In the coming weeks, we will be posting clear videos of individual levels to our youtube channels. If you’re impatient, or if you’d like to sit down with a nice bowl of popcorn, recline in your seat, and watch nearly 4 hours of nonstop YI content, you can check out a new 100% longplay video that TreuloseTomate kindly uploaded recently.
Thank you everyone for your patience as we worked on fixing everything for this release - if you’ve never tried out the hack before, we hope you are able to give it a try!
