Now that I've got your attention, hi. Welcome to another typical bebn music thread for C3! You know the drill. It's time to show off the ports I've been hoarding.
Unfortunately, Superfamicompo is eating up a bunch of stuff I have ready right now, and I did spend a lot of time on other musical endeavours (many of which are secret for now 🥲), so the selection is a bit more limited this time. That being said, I did rush out a port today just for this thread!
So, here's what we have in store!
Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers - Robotnik Coaster Zone
こをり - 忘却の稚鳥
Hallo aus Berlin - Was ist dein Lieblingsfach?
Sonic CD - Quartz Quadrant Zone (Past)
Short of having these autoplay on page load, you can listen to them HERE.
Two of these you may have heard in contest entries. And one of these I had previously ported before. But it's been quite a while since those misty May days where I first ported Quartz Quadrant Zone (Past), so I figured I'd give it another go.
Besides that, in keeping with the old web theme, I figured it'd be fun to do another MIDI dump. After all, it's the best way to listen to video game music on your computer in 1999!
Keep in mind, the MIDIs are provided as-is, and many aren't entirely accurate since they're just intermediary references I use while porting; so a pitch bend might be transcribed as a bunch of quick notes because it's easier than messing with channel pitch and I'll remember what it's supposed to be, volume balancing is not a concern, etc. That being said, some of them can still sound quite good, even if your computer's soundcard isn't a Sound Blaster! My personal recommendation would be using foobar2000 and one of its FM-y MIDI plugins. Some highlights would be 忘却の稚鳥, Bloody Tears, and Pokémon X/Y - Boutique. I'll leave the "which song is which" filename scavenger hunt to y'all. (My one request with these is to not use them for cheapo midislaps that you publish anywhere. Don't just put a soundfont on a MIDI and upload it to YouTube for Content™.)
Get your hands on 32 MIDIs HERE.
And I suppose that's all! Hope y'all enjoyed the C3 scheme this time around :-)
