MOTOSKILL - The True Story

Super Mario WorldKaizo/PitWork in ProgressVideos

Unfortunately I didn't have that much time to make a small trailer, but there was just enough time for a small mini presentation with some older footage...
As a small interim/secondary project, I hereby present ...

... MOTO SKILL ... #smw{:TUP:}

Why/wherefore/why? (Background)
Not long ago SilentMoon built a SMW Hack Quiz level in Mario Maker for BanzaiChuck and me. There was a question about what to call the gimmick that allows you to switch back and forth between normal jump and spin jump midair. If you take it seriously, all answer options were wrong (there was a typo - instead of Motorskill it said Moto Skill). Although we didn't mean any harm, it was still a very funny situation and we both had a good laugh about it. In order to make SilentMoon laugh (he was a little less happy about this situation than we were) I came up with the spontaneous idea of building a little hack that explains why it's actually called Moto Skill instead of Motorskill. The solution can also be seen in the title screen... Spoiler: the evil, insatiable Munchers simply ate the R. This idea caused amusement in Banzai's community and so I didn't have to wait long to build a little mini-hack out of it, which appropriately has the subtitle "Silent's Revenge".

I have the following loose key data/ideas on the list for this hack:
- it's actually supposed to be a mini hack trilogy ("Silent's Revenge", "Banzai Strikes Back" and "The Last Groove")
- Each section consists of three levels around the topic of moto(r)skills
- It should be clear who the final boss will be; I know someone who has exactly that in stock, if I ask nicely I might be able to borrow the boss (Munchers be careful) xD
- visually it will be very vanilla-heavy with nice color palettes
- Skill level: intermediate

Current status:
- Completed 3 levels with pure moto(r)skills
- Completed 2 levels with "Alternating Double Jump" (combination of double jump and moto(r)skills).

In order not to waste just a few words, I have a few moving pictures at the start that give a small first impression. In the meantime, small changes have been made here and there, so the gameplay is not 100 percent final.

Titlescreen

A level of "Silent's Revenge" with pure moto(r)skills

A later level of "Banzai Strikes Back" or "The Last Groove" (not sure yet) with the "Alternating Double Jump"

LAST WORDS
All in all, it should be a little hack that offers a certain challenge, but should also be nice to snack #smw{B)}
Maybe I can release the baby for the upcoming C3 ...

Thx for watching/reading #w{<3}
Unfortunately, I do not possess any MOTO[Luigi's pants] SKILL, so I know that playing this hack isn't for me. However, everything I'm seeing here looks incredibly well-designed and polished, so it's definitely one of those "I'll watch someone else play through this" hacks. Nice choice of custom music, too!
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Wow, how do you manage to consistently pump out levels with this much quality?
Looks great and loving the title screen #tb{:DD}
Really looking forward to see the different stuff you come up with using this gimmick.

This is such a cute origin story for a hack haha
It's nice to see the lengths you're taking this little inside joke to make your friend happy. And that's leading to something that looks really good!

The moto(r)skills mechanic has been widely used in many kaizo hacks before. However, i really like what i'm seeing in these videos. The levels are well made around the use of the mechanics and present some clever setups.
I also like the aesthetics for these levels, especially with the little animations sprinkled around like the vines, such a nice detail haha

And speaking of animations, i love that title screen! The muncher eating the letter R is so funny, and the animation for it is really well made.

While this looks like it's comfortably outside my SMW playing skills, I wanted to commend the effort you've put into the theme and also the visuals!
I think interest is generated by "texture" (as in some kind of depth and layers to it) and this game already has a lot of texture, because of the backstory and your decision to keep running with it #tb{:j}
