Samantha's Thread Full of SPC700 Heaters

This thread is a log of ports I've completed but haven't released as well as works in progress. I'll be updating this thread as I complete things and have new WIPs to show.

Finished Ports
Super Puyo Puyo - Sticker of PuyoPuyo [Light Sampled]
This song is really cute and lively and needed an update from the old unsampled version.
Cyber-Rainforce - Crystal Cave [Light Sampled]
So uh, funny story with this one. I made this back in 2022 but actually deleted it because I didn't think I was ever gonna be able to actually submit this anywhere. But miraculously I still have the SPC and chord samples so I'm gonna recreate this and release it next C3.
deadmau5 - Superbia [Unsampled]
A really brooding and somber piano piece.

Works In Progress
Gakko de atta Kowai Hanashi - Shindo Makoto [Unsampled]
This one is pretty much finished, I just have to tweak the ADSR on certain notes to get it to sound fully accurate.
VVVVVV - Pressure Cooker [Light Sampled]
Was gonna finish this for SuperFamicompo this year but I forgot lol. This one's far from finished but I'm pretty proud of what I have done so far. When completed this will probably be the most ambitious port I've ever made.
DHS - Move This [Sampled]
This is a cracked out tracker song I found on ModArchive at random. Due to how fucking huge the samples are (keep in mind they're downsized in this SPC) I'm not actually sure I'll be able to make this SMW compatible even if I remove some of the annoying vocal samples, but I'm gonna try my best.
Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius - Shooting It's Mouth Off [Unsampled]
A silly boss theme from JOP.
Undertale - Respite [Unsampled]
Gotta adjust the ADSR and echo on this one as it's been collecting dust on my hard drive for a while, but I'd say it's mostly finished.
Touhou 16 - Swim In A Sakura-Colored Sea [Unsampled]
The really lively stage 3 theme from Touhou 16. This one is pretty rough but I intend to finish it for C3 next year.

Ho, welcome back, Samantha!

I might go ahead and check out that PuyoPuyo song you ported it. Looks very pleasing!

Thank you #smrpg{haha}

I made the Puyo Puyo port pretty recently and I'm quite happy with it

List Soundtrack - List Hacks

Mega Man X3 OSTs
Hello Samantha! I lost my DM archives with regards to Discord since the port was done five years ago, but I remember that someone had paged me about The Shinri Game 2 one time and I think referred me to you quite some time ago, so I've run into you or heard of you at least once.

Today, I'm the person updating AddmusicK in addition to continuing my reverse engineering journey across the entire commercial era SNES sound driver collection, so I've been ironing out plenty of quirks over the years, in addition to preparing it for the next big feature.

Oh yeah I ported one of the tracks from that game years ago. I'll probably do so again in the future cause it has a killer soundtrack.

Also please bring the PWM command I'm tired of having to use two whole channels for it.
Youtube ~ SPC Thread ~ Last.fm
That command has actually been restored... in my AddmusicKFF fork. The main reason why I haven't brought it out in the official tool yet is ASM filesize related on the SPC700: it costs ASM filesize for me to implement it and I haven't yet upgraded it to dynamically compile the sound driver based on the commands used (and I want to do so not via the C++ side because I see that as too much mayhem, but rather by having the music instead compile to .asm files so that I can use macros to detect usages and code fragments to use). Plus, I have been keeping the default ASM filesize (this doesn't count the SFX and global songs, both of which have actually shrunk) to no larger than 1.0.8's to avoid memory overflows on songs that really push it.

And for The Shinri Game 2... that game is one of the more notorious ones due to VxPITCH overflowing. It is also programmatically different than N-SPC with a few differences in its execution (most critically, asynchronous termination of the phrases, meaning it only advances a phrase after all channels are done), but the internal format is recognizable as standard N-SPC.

I see. Does this mean it won't be implemented into the officially available tool or just that it'll take some time to get there?

Also I didn't know that about Shinri2. It's so interesting how all these different games have wildly different processing when it comes to their music.

Currently it does indeed fall under the it'll take some time to get in there category... especially since my own fork also includes quite a bit of other stuff, most commonly in the form of additional hex commands, that also were not included in the fork. One of the things I actually have planned, though, as part of turning the music into ASM files, is to make the hex command ID handling more customizable by the user in the MML (and it allows me to do presets as well for the older Addmusics, and also by doing this I get rid of some C++-side mayhem caused by all of the hex command conversions that tool has to do, though the cost for doing so is that I have to decompile the compiled music data for all older parser versions since I know the output is hardcoded hex data, and I'm not about to fool around with that due to various parser quirks).

Well, it's been five years, and I've been doing a lot of tracing in the meantime. I've even made a record of its communication protocol, as well as how it handles its sound effects. I also have some ARAM maps traced (though typically just the variable ARAM, since other locations can be a lot more inconsistent and on a per game or even per build basis)... and one of the things the newest version of AddmusicK has is a complete trace of the variable ARAM map from Vanilla Super Mario World through the Addmusic forks up to the latest released version of AddmusicK.
Welcome back!!!

These ports are really chill and cute, especially Super Puyo Puyo - Sticker of PuyoPuyo, which become one of my favourite ports.

Thank you! And I'm glad you like the SPP one, I really enjoyed making it.

Yeehaw!! That's one of my favorite songs from VVVVVV, along with Pushing Onwards.

It's one of mine too. The port of it that's out there is alright but I think it's in need of an upgrade especially since a fully accurate MIDI of the song is pretty easy to find.

DKC2 - Run, Rambi! Run!

This one is already in the section but I'm posting it here cause I had some thoughts worth sharing. As someone who's been paying attention to SMW hacks since like 2012 or so I've realized there are a ton of songs that were ported 10-15 years ago that have yet to receive an update, this track being one of them. I think going forward I'm gonna put a good bit of energy toward updating a lot of stuff that's crusty and ancient by current standards. Expect more DKC ports from me in the future #smrpg{cool}
