Welcome! Kuso Daydreams is the latest attempt in my long journey to hack and horrifically corrupt all of Mario's pure and innocent 2D relics. This time, I wanted to make a hack that abused and celebrated all of the strange oddities and mechanics within SMB2, a game that I feel has extremely rich potential for how simple it is (relative to later games like SMB3 and SMW, of course).

Throughout our journey, Mario, Peach, Toad, and Luigi, four good friends through many a journey, find themselves bouncing objects on their heads, glitching through walls, and causing other things to glitch through walls, all in a concise "one screen nightmare cafe" format, a sacred tradition etched in stone by the Kuso and Kaizo greats of time past.
There has been much debate around the meaning of the word "Kuso", but most historians agree that this genre revolves around using strange mechanics and glitches WITHOUT explaining them within the game itself - that is the key here, and is where players will find this game differs from similar projects that abuse glitches, such as the Unintended Behavior series and Flutter. Within the game itself, there is little to guide you through the chaos.
While I do believe that the one-screen format should help naturally guide players towards experimentation, and thus solutions (even if you have zero experience with SMB2, as did one of my testers), there are a few options at your disposal if you get stuck at any time:
- Ancient SMB2 scientists of a long bygone era have compiled their research in a few different places, which you are welcome to study beforehand:
Mario Wiki, TASVideos, Strategy Wiki
- If you'd prefer to have a HINT only, which does not reveal the full solution, there is a subfolder included within the download called "Level Hints"
- If you'd prefer to simply be told the solution, you can check the "Level Solutions" subfolder also found within the download (or the clear video).
I've also created a playlist with the intended solution for each video in case you don't want to get accidentally spoiled (or you're supremely lazy): Kuso Daydreams Level Solution Playlist
Lastly, here's some lively screen captures of Mario and his friends doing various activities:

Thanks for stopping by, and if you give the hack a try, I hope you enjoy it! =)
