Presenting: the 2025 SMWCentral Calendar of Events
Some of you may argue this isn't a calendar, so it's better to think of it as a roadmap. In past years, when setting dates for the entire year, the dates we set in January became irrelevant later in the year. This year, we are holding off on assigning hard dates on events until the beginning of a new quarter. This lets us be more flexible in allotting time and resources to each thing we do.
We are aiming for a regular pattern: one "big" level design contest per quarter, one resource-specific creation contest per quarter, and at least one significant site event per quarter. Smaller events and user-hosted contests would slot in to these quarters as they pop up.
We're also bringing some new events and formats to the table. You'll notice two brand new contests: a Super Mario Bros. 2 Level Design Contest for everyone who has seen the recent expansion of resources and support for SMB2Edit and the SMB2 hacking community; and a new coding contest we're calling Advent of ASM, a retooling of the old Mad Scientist Contest for something more participatory and, hopefully, fun.
You are invited to use this thread for discussing the calendar and these events, as well as offer suggestions for new events. Additionally, If you have suggestions, questions, or comments about anything event related, feel free to either post them in this thread, shoot me a site PM, or reach out on Discord to myself or any Site Events Team member.
