SM64-ish Red Coins

<embed width="448" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" src="http://s222.photobucket.com/flash/player.swf?file=http://vid222.photobucket.com/albums/dd165/pieguy1372/test-1.flv"></embed>

As you see here, these are the red coins I've been talking about occasionally. If you collect eight of them in a level, a secret exit opens up. As demonstrated in the video, the red coin count resets when you start a level and they do not reappear if you exit and enter an area, and they activate the secret exit if you collect eight. There were a few routine hacks done to display the count on the status bar correctly, but those aren't technically part of the red coins. :P

Sorry about the lack of any more content, but this is the only thing I have to show at the moment. Perhaps if I come up with something else in the next day or so I'll post it here, but I doubt that will happen. :/
I really like the idea. Is there a way to make it appear when you press a P-Switch like NSMB did?

It would be sweet if there was what I said and the original. I could really use it for my hack that resembles Super Mario 64.
Working on something!

Better than the cape!

Here's a suggestion; what if it was inserted as a sprite, and the amount of coins you have showed up under the status bar, like mikeyk's Air Meter? That way, you can do it on a per level basis, and you don't have to use up space in your status bar. You'd need an ExGFX file with a coin icon, but it might also allow you to add the numbers that appear in SM64.

awesome!

are you going to submit them?
Good work you did there! Is this also customisable? Like for example: When you collect 8 coins, you get a 1-UP, like NSWB? Or a star? Or whatever comes to your mind. That would be pretty cool. Or you could make it so a key appears when you collect them all.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
I'm guessing this is a hack of the Yoshi coin, right?

if that's the case, you should change the following:

from the ROM map:
0755E|$00:F35E|1 byte-Misc.|How many regular coins a Dragon Coin gives you

change that to 2, so it's like in SM64 ;)

other then that, I like this =P

Yes, there is, but the way I have it set up it is normally collectible but solid if you hit a P-Switch (like the normal coins).

That's a good idea, but I don't know how to do that yet. ;_;

I likely will... at some point.

Making it do something other than what it does now requires changing the ASM code, but the part that has to be changed is easy enough to find.

No, this is a custom block. It replaces the purple coin as to make it not reappear when you enter a level though. However, making it give two coins is a good idea. :D
Your layout has been removed.

Ahh, 'tis a shame. I wish I knew how to make sprites...

Maybe I'll learn when I have time.
Cool. I wanted to make the red coins in SMTKO more like Mario 64. Maybe not open a new exit (for most levels), but definitely reappear when you enter a level so you can do it again.

I'd love to replace our hacked Yoshi coins with an 8 red coin system for a 1-up.

Small detail I noticed: Mario 64 red coins were worth 2 regular coins.
