Hello there, ladies, gentlemen and dimensional travelers. Welcome to another megathread, brought by yours truly. After my absence in the last event, I'm back and loaded with a lot of new fun content for ya! Oh yes!

As usual, each day I'll bring new content. So, first, let's start with what the people want. Get ready for a trip through this thread, this will get questionable really fast and well, enough talking...

DAY ONE

GRAPHICS TIME!!

Gunstar Heroes - Black's Base (Item Room)

This is the Item Room of Black's Base from Gunstar Heroes. I had to take some liberties because the SEGA Genesis uses a higher resolution, so I had to cut it short horizontallly. It can even be used in horizontal expanded levels if one wishes to. I'll let people figure out how to use this pseudo-3d tileset. Needless to say, the ledge at the middle is a perfect fit for the passable ledge blocks.

R-Type III: The Third Lightning (SNES) - Bionics Laboratory

I always felt that we needed more laboratory-like backgrounds in the site, so here's my present to you all. This is an alien laboratory structure from R-Type III: The Third Lightning. Unfortunately, I couldn't include the palette seen in the hard mode, because this game is hard as sin. It requires you to beat it twice to see the ending, and the second loop, aka Advanced Mode, is quite brutal. Maybe one day.

Meanwhile, I hope to see more creepy and sinister looking laboratories in future romhacks. #smrpg{:D}

Soreyuke Ebisumaru Karakuri Meiro ~ Kieta Goemon no Nazo!! - Koban Coins

Ok, so maybe you don't want a creepy laboratory alien background? Fine. Here are some shiny and deadly koban coins. I found this very unusual graphic in a really obscure Ganbare Goemon spinoff, where Ebisumaru is the main character. The game consist in navigating a mechanical maze and solving puzzles. Unfortunately, most backgrounds are a pain in the butt to make them scroll horizontally, so please don't scroll this or find a way to loop it. Use it in a treasure room, maybe? Who knows? #smrpg{:3}

Pulseman - Stage 1 (Cyberspace)

Wow! Two backgrounds in one submission? Yup! These two tilemaps are used together in the Cyberspace Area from the first level of Pulseman. A great fit for internet themed levels, which I also think are quite rare. Or mechanical levels, who knows. These two graphics are very light, using very few colors. I bet someone could convert these to layer 3 if needed. Anyway, I hope people make good use of these and have fun! #smrpg{:O}

A Questionable Announcement?!

And now for the biggest not surprise of the night...

The Dimensional Castle Starring Aeron - Deluxe Edition!

Long short story, I was losing steam and motivation while working in Ganbare Aeron, and then, the Questionable Level Design Contest 3 came in and I felt my ideas flowing right away. I wanted to do more wacky level stuff how I did in Boxman Tano, so this was the perfect opportunity to do so. Here's the video about my QLDC adventure, for those who are curious.

And that's right, I'm working in an improved and tiny bit expanded version of my QLDC 3 entry, Brandish New Adventure, just kidding, the actual title is The Dimensional Castle Starring Aeron.

Before I talk more about the project, here's the main inspiration for this silly bite sized adventure:

An Original Video Animation of the Ganbare Goemons series. It's a very funny silly little story. I think it's worth of watching and see how wacky and lighthearted it is. #smrpg{:3}

Anyway, this is a spinoff in the Aeron series, meaning you don't need to know the character or play any other hacks of mine, but some easter egg and references could get lost if don't do so...

The story in this one starts after my first hack, Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest ~ The Director's Cut. Our wacky wizard friend, Aeron, wakes up from a nap and falls through a hole. Shortly afterwards, he arrives at a mysterious dimensional castle in an underground area. The goal is simple: our buddy needs to escape this chaotic stronghold and reach his beloved home. You will encounter funny NPCs and nasty enemies along the way. This is a very rude hack and some of the level design is very questionable, but I added a lot of checkpoints and the game saves after every checkpoint to make the experience much smoother.

Screenshots:

Please look forward to it. I'll be releasing it once the QLDC event is over. #smrpg{sick}

That's it for Day One. I hope you have a great C3 event, folks. #smrpg{mlem}

Post C3 content here!

Love seeing your recent R-Type III rips, I've always felt like it's one of the most visually stunning games on the SNES. The other stuff you have here is really good too, I especially like how sleek the Gunstar Heroes one looks. I'll have to find a way to work that into a hack in a way that makes sense.

Your QLDC entry looks insane as well, I love your graphical style. Very eclectic but somehow everything works and fits together. Do you plan on releasing more of the stuff from your QLDC entry like the BG with the snowmen?
Quite curious of the Koban Coins. At first, I thought it was a golden forest or something.
The Pulseman GFX are really good as those don't require much detail. The shop GFX from Gunstar Heroes looks nice. Nice one.

That's right and now it's the perfect time to do it. Behold! Resources used in my QLDC entry!

Questionable Graphics? Kinda?

Gunstar Heroes - Black's Base (Main Boss)

Here's a mechanical background seen in the main boss area from the third level of Gunstar Heroes. It features a lonely cow just chilling around some mechanical structures. I took some liberties and looped it to fit SMW levels better. A good fit for mechanical grasslands. Or Gunstar Heroes themed levels. Be creative!

Brazil-like Hills (Funny Edit)

Here's a questionable background! I just took SMW Hills and the Jesus' Corcovado Hill statue and merged them together. The palettes is meant to evoke the brazilian flag. The hills are green and yellow (kinda, I had to tone down because this specific color is hard to work with), the sky is blue and the Jesus statue is white. In my entry, I've used the YI Clouds. You can combine it with layer 3 backgrounds and have interesting results. I want more brazilian representation in hacks, hence why I made this. I won't upload this to the Graphics Section, because it breaks Core Values. #smrpg{sick}

Soreyuke Ebisumaru Karakuri Meiro ~ Kieta Goemon no Nazo!! - Snowmen and Snow Bunnies

A gorgeous snowy background filled snowmen and snow bunnies. It makes a great use of HDMA gradient to give a chill vibe to it. I ripped it from the obscure Goemon spinoff I mentioned earlier. Could be a fantastic fit for unusual snow levels. It's my personal favorite background of the bunch. It uses 3 palette rows, though. Very heavy color usage and I made an extra effort to loop it for general SMW usage. I hope you have fun with this one. #smrpg{<3}

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance - Entrance

You might be wondering: "Anorak, this background already exists in the site". And you're right, my dear spectator. But there's a catch. After I finished my QLDC entry and the contest ended, I was wondering why the background felt off to me. I discovered the site version was missing colors. And my rip was also missing. After a lot of trouble, I manage to solve this, at the cost of using palette rows 0,1,3 and 5. Yup, layer 3 support was sacrificed. The main differences to the site version: the castle towers have the correct shade of grey and the ruined portion of the wall uses the correct sky color (blue instead of grey), but since it uses only two palette rows, I decided to not update Roberto zampari's rip with my version. If you want a more accurate version, you can download it in the zip file at the end of this post. I won't also be submitting this graphic to the section. I hope you guys have fun with it. #smrpg{y}

Mega Man X3 - Shipyard (Simplified)

And this is my attempt of looping the shipyard background seen in Crush Crawfish's stage from Mega Man X3. It's a great fit for mechanical levels around the sea. This one I won't also be submitting to the Graphics Section because it's a bit mirrored and can look a bit jarring. But hey, you can dowload this in the zip file at the end of the post. Hooray!#smrpg{sick}

Kirby's Adventure - Starman

I edited the Ninji Disassembly by  imamelia and made a funny ninji that always jump very high. Then, while I was making my QLDC entry, I thought: hey, I know a Kirby enemy that would fit it perfectly. I took the graphics from the original Kirby's Adventure and I gave it a new coat of paint to match the artwork of this little guy. He's the one who gives the Hi-Jump ability to Kirby.

Anyway, please credit  imamelia if you end using the hijumpninji asm bundled with the zip file. I'm not releasing it in the Graphics Section for the time being.

Download this mega package here!

With the exception of the Mega Man X3, Brazil and Castlevania backgrounds, all the other will go to the Graphics Section eventually. I'm just really busy. That should be it for Day Two.

What are your thoughts about these graphics? #smrpg{:O}

Oooh some Gunstar Hero Graphics. Not everyday I see graphics from that game. Really digging what you've shown here and can see myself using quite a few of these. Also looking forward to The Dimensional Castle Starring Aeron. May not be good enough to play them without tools, but do really enjoy the aesthetics and level design.
Guess I'm alive again...

My Youtube Channel for Hacking and Gaming.
This Brazil's Christ The Redeemer statue you've got here is simply holy. What a supreme work here  Anorakun! And yes, hope Brazil gets more represented in hacks along the time, and this is going to be a perfect gfx for that #tb{^V^}
My god you’re too good at this!

Nice job ripping the Goemon spinoff stuff. I was just porting a song from that game recently, maybe I’ll finish it someday.
Wow, you are very good at this, congratulations for this magnificent work... and I can't believe you made the sacred statue of Christ the Redeemer... and I hope Brazil is represented in future hacks.

Making sure to check this next hack of yours, since Boxman Tano was funny (looking forward for the updated version too).
And as a resident from hell itself (Rio de Janeiro), I approve the Christ Redeemer edit. im curious to see if the statue was also made by you
Love seeing more Kirby stuff on the site, your edit was very creative and clever.#smrpg{<3}
Kirbo was here
That cow in the Gunstar Heroes background is my MVP. Nice graphics!
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm not sure if I'll be able to showcase more content during this Monday. Who knows.

Anyway, it's time for more graphics. Get ready, folks, because I have some surprises up my sleeves. :O

DAY THREE

ASSORTED GRAPHICS AND FUN

R-Type III: The Third Lightning (SNES) - Fire Cask Factory (First Section)

A perfect fit for your factory levels. Uses only 4 colors, leaving some space for layer 3 stuff.

I wanna see more fun factories level in the near future, so here's my contribution. I hope you all enjoy it! #smrpg{:3}

Anyone is welcome to attempt to make a layer 3 conversion of this background, too.

Gekisou Sentai Carranger - Stage 3 (Cave)

This a very simple graphic I've found while doing a short playthrough of Gekisou Sentai Carranger for the SNES. It's a surprisingly easy game. I beat it in one sitting during an evening. I think this would fit very well with water themed caves, in general. Or you can recolor it to look like inside of a volcano, maybe? Use your creativity, folks. #smrpg{:3}

Gekisou Sentai Carranger - Stage 4 (Sky)

And here's a very nice background with clouds seen in the fourth stage of Gekisou Sentai Carrangers. As you can see, these clouds use parallax scrolling in the original game. Needless to say, this is another great alternative for sky levels, in general.

Jelly Boy 2 - Wonder Space (Constellations)

Now, for the biggest star of the show. Literally! This background is so big that requires the expanded horizontal level mode from Lunar Magic. It's a pretty space-like background filled with stars and various constellations. A good fit for space levels, or for any level you feel like, really. If using in a normal level with no vertical scroll, please pick the parts you like more.

And now, for something special...

Get Aeron in your SMW Hack (Kinda!!)

That's right! You can have Aeron as a fun NPC in your SMW Hacks from now on!

This graphic is meant to be used with wye's NPC sprite.

Aeron sprite made by  Dappertron

Aeron's authorship: yours truly! (Anorakun)

Please credit us when using this fun guy in your hacks, okay? I'm curious what you guys will cook with this! #smrpg{mlem}

Questionable SPCs for your Listening!

And lastly, I would like to share some epic tunes that I've edited / remixed / modified for usage in my QLDC Entry: The Dimensional Castle Starring Aeron.

My goal with these was to evoke the vibe of old hacks, in general, with inaccurate ports, missing instruments and even lots of steel drum. So be ready, because this will be rough and wacky! #smrpg{sick}

Please take a listen, folks!

Displeasure Moments!

Steel Drum Mixes!!

1) Final Fantasy Legend III - Holy Ruins by  Xulon, edited by yours truly.

This one is a very simple edit of this port.

I'm really sorry about this Xulon. This one is used in the Memorial Room of the Castle. Let's send your prayers for the fallen souls who failed to escape the castle.

2) Mickey Mouse March by dyavid, edited by yours truly

A steel drum mix of the rejected Mickey Mouse March port. Funnily enough, this version sounds more snowy than the port that was rejected a time ago in the site. This one is used in the Hokkaido area of the Dimensional Castle.

3) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Dracula's Castle by Holy Order Sol, edited by yours truly.

I always felt that the site port lacked some energy, so I sped up the tempo a tiny bit and added even more steel drums.

i think that this one, unironically, turned out to be decent and even funny to listen from time to time.

This was used in Castlevania: Dracula X Stage 5 Remixed from Memory?! Deluxe Edition.

4) Banjo Kazooie - Rusty Bucket Bay by  Sayuri, edited by yours truly.

I think this one aged quite well, all things considered. I just wanted to make it even more wackier. lol.

I went all out with steel drums for this one and the results are hilarious. Bwhahahahahaha!#smrpg{sick}

This one is used near the end of game, in the Lobster's Base.

I'm sorry, Sayuri!

SPCToMML Mixes!

5) Brandish (SNES) - Headless by SPCToMML, edited by yours truly

I just ran this one through SPCtoMML and sped up quite a bit. The results are incredible. I knew that the tool hated pitch bends and other stuff, but I didn't expect this to be so bad. A dissonant fast paced song was created and the best part? The loop ends way sooner than expected, throwing people off as result. This one was used in the 4 Thwomps Mini-boss in Brazil.

6) Brandish (SNES) - Lobster by SPCtoMML

Since  Segment1Zone2 said they dislike this song and would never port it, I called for help to my friend, SPCToMML. The results are quite fantastic, unironically. It made what used to be a bad song into a worse one. At least the loop in this one is done properly, I dare to say. Embrace Lobster as the new musical genre! #smrpg{:P}

This one is used while fighting R. Lobster at the end of the game.

Boxman Tano Mix!

7) Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon - Sunset ~ Want You by yours truly, with assistance of Midi2SMW

Originally, I was planning to save this one to be used in Boxman Tano, but it felt quite nice as the credits theme of my QLDC Entry. This port was made a time ago, I adjusted some volume and instruments, took me a lot of trial and error choosing instruments, but I'm quite happy with the final results, even if the loop is kinda weird, hahah. It's a questionable port after all! #smrpg{cool}

--- x ---

So, which graphics are your favorite (s)? And which of the songs do you think this a certified banger or which one do you guys feel like "thanks I hate this, Anora!!"? Please leave your thoughts, I appreciate them. #smrpg{<3}

My god we're being well fed this C3! Good stuff once again, though with that R-Type III background did you attempt to also get the lava animation that pops up later in the stage?

Also good lord how dare you defile my work like this #smrpg{roar}

/s

Unfortunately not, it looks non-trivial but I'll give my best to rip the animation and put it in an upcoming update. I have other rips in mind to finish soon. I'm trying to figure out how to animate the waterfall background from Tunnel Rhino Stage from Mega Man X3.

--- x ---

DAY FOUR

Since this C3 is ending faster than I keep up my rhythm, I didn't have much time to find amazing new graphics. But hey, I've found some neat stuff to share with you nonetheless! Please take a look! #smrpg{cool}

Trip World - Yakopoo

This is a cute bunny-like creature, the main character from Trip World, Yakopoo, drawn by the talented No Body the Dragon, aka NBTD. A good fit for levels like forests, grassland and other kinds. I've used this poor soul just for it to die to a mean albatoss in my QLDC3 entry. Sorry, I have a questionable sense of humor. #smrpg{sick}

Fiery Falling Lantern

These were made by Blizzard Buffalo, during one of these C3 events. They're based on the flying lantern youkai from Ganbare Goemon 2: Kiteretsu Shougun Magginesu. I have made some small tweaks to it. Two palettes are bundled with the submission: one is used in Aeron's Golden Cookie Quest, while the other is used in my upcoming hack, Ganbare Aeron.

Pick the one you like the most.

--- x ---

With that said, I hope you guys have enjoyed my wacky dimensional thread that has a lot of QLDC spoilers. (sorry,  patcdr)

Stay tuned because I might try to bring more graphics very soon as post-C3 content!

Cheers! Happy C3, everyone! #smrpg{<3}

Quite a curiosity on the flames coming from a lanthern. Good one, Anorakun.

And that's all for the main show, folks! Once again, my thanks to anyone who checked out my thread. #smrpg{<3}

Stay tuned because I might bring post-C3 content. Cheers! And happy C3!#smrpg{<3}

Oh gosh! Awesome rips and graphics!

Now is possible doing the Jesucristo Plains and make him a boss?

Good Job Warriors Of The Sorrow! #smrpg{cool}
I'm working on a collab Hack, and we're looking for partners with GFX and/or ASM skills to work with us on Pub Quest For RR. If you're interested, contact me!

Pub Quest For RR (PQFRR)

Pub Quest For RR (PQFRR)
As expected out of Anorakun, a billion awesome graphics rips! #smrpg{<3}

Definitely thinking of using some of these in my next (potential) project, especially the Gekisou Sentai Carranger ones. I feel like they'd fit with SMW-ish graphics quite well.

For my favorite song? Definitely "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Dracula's Castle". It absolutely nails that "really old hack music" vibe without sounding too ear-piercing.

Also:

It genuinely sounds better this way, lmao. The main problem with the original is that it was just too boring. With this, you made it incredibly funny, and even though I know this was mostly SPCToMML's work, it's still crazy to think such a song could be turned into something like this.
(all of these songs make me wonder if you're thinking of learning how to port too... maybe we'll see... next C3)

Anyways, really cool stuff all around, and one of the beefiest C3 threads content wise. #smrpg{<3}
I'm glad that you enjoyed my wacky content and funny graphics, guys That means a lot to me.

But the show is not over yet.

Behold!

POST-C3 Content!

Seifuku Densetsu Pretty Fighter - Versus Screen

Here we have a very simple but cute graphic. It's nothing too special, but I always like to offer a wide variety of graphics for people to choose. So here it is. A good background for bonus rooms. I've included bg scrolling to replicate the original as well. I hope you like this one.

Seifuku Densetsu Pretty Fighter - Kyoto (Front)

This is meant to be used both as a background and foreground. It's a very chunky gfx, using whooping 1F2 tiles. I did my best to keep compatibility with most global objects. Recommended to be used together with a layer 3 bg. I was on the fence about ripping this, since I care a lot about how friendly a graphic should be to the average user, but I felt the need to share it. I bet people will make fantastic use of this. I also took some liberties and looped it.

Seifuku Densetsu Pretty Fighters - Ending

Very similar to the Versus Screen background, but much more detailed and colorful. The kanjis in the background literally mean "Pretty Fighter". It's another very "simple rip". Maybe a bit more color heavy than the last one, but still, a good fit for a bonus room. I just did this one for the sake of completeness, since the other backgrounds I was planning to rip from this game are too heavy to be used in SMW (in terms of GFX space) or too hard to rip. I hope you enjoy these PRETTY rips from this obscure fighting game.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood - Stage 3 (Stained Glass Windows)

Now, for the star of the show. A very colorful and beautiful stained glass windows background from the classic cult Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. This one took me a bit of time to figure out how to rip, since it's so color heavy. Anyway, the best solution I came with was sacrificing palette row 1 instead of 4 for the sake of compatibility with more global objects. So you must use this one with a patch that removes status bar, or with a sprite status bar. There's a lot of options, nowadays, so yeah, not the most vanilla friendly background, but yeah, sacrifices are necessary sometimes.

...And that's it for the Post-C3 content. What are your thoughts about the whole thread in general? Which graphics did you like the most? Did you enjoy the announcement about my QLDC entry coming soon to the Hacks Section? Any questionable port you guys did enjoy? I appreciate the feedback and once again, thanks for anyone who spent their valuable time checking my C3 content. Cheers!#smrpg{<3}

P.S.: I can't promise I'll bring more C3 content, I'm too exhausted and without ideas. If I bring something, consider yourselves lucky!

That rondo of blood background looks great, plus that versus screen would look nice as a bonus room bg with some hdma effects. Thanks for the rips!
