All in a Day's World ~ a hack made in a short period of time

Super Mario WorldStandardFull ReleaseScreenshots

Ciao! Eight days ago, I spontaneously started working on a hack. This hack.

I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to make each level within an hour or so, and then spruce it up with delicious palettes and scrumptious custom music. It's been a really fun exercise! And also a good opportunity to repurpose overworld maps I made 2 years ago that have been collecting dust ever since. 😊

I gave them events and everything in less than an hour though! Literally today, teehee.

--------------------

Anyways, here are some screenshots!

--------------------

That's about all I have to say, haha. I am also writing this thread within an hour or so.

DOWNLOAD HERE

I do highly recommend taking on this exercise yourself if you have the time and interest, it's both exhilarating and rewarding. Good practice too!

Have a très joyeux C3, everyone!

A E-man hack? With levels made in less than an hour?? 👀
The traditional platforming enjoyer I am can already say I love what is presented in these screenshots, can't wait to play this!

Those palettes look a little bright for my taste but it still looks good
I feel like y'all don't know what a "bright" palette is, and could do with giving more constructive comments if you're going to participate in someone's thread.

Looks good e-man! I'll check it out when it releases.

Thank you!! And wait no longer, because the hack has actually been submitted now. Yippee! It took way longer than I anticipated to wrap everything up. 😅

That's very fair honestly. I ended up experimenting a lot with the palettes for this hack in particular, haha.
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
Finished to play the hack and collected all the Dragon Coins, I really loved this! It's always a pleasure to play good old traditional levels, and they were really well designed for being made under an hour. I'm curious if you imposed yourself some restrictions (i.e. using a peculiar sprite) or just designed the levels as the inspiration comes.

Here's some peculiar things I found funny/interesting or really liked:
- The DC guarded by a pitching Chuck after hitting a vine block in SKYSCRAPER PLAINS was a very funny twist.

- Found the placement of the last two DC in LOOK OUT! clever.

- Really liked POMS CAVERN with its steep slopes, the third DC was a bit tricky but felt rewarding to get.

- Didn't expect the boss levels, I liked the player had to grab the highest throw blocks in BIG BOO? WHAT? albeit it felt a bit too long/repetitive.

Thank you for making this nice little hack!

Hopefully I get some free time to play it soon, seeing as it's not a long hack. I am very curious about how it turned out given the short timeframe. And indeed, it's something I am curious about doing myself, but unfortunately, I think I couldn't bring myself to actually finish more than like, one half of a level within an hour or so #tb{:p}

Still, great job E-Man! Screenies look gorgeous ❤️
Please check out BOWSIE!
I'm not a smoking anime girl.
Not yet.
I caught glimpses of this while you were working on it but I'm happy I was able to experience it blind. This is a really fun hack! The level design is really solid and doesn't feel like it suffers from the short timeframe you gave yourself for each level. In fact, I feel like it actually brings out some unique design I wouldn't expect from you usually.

I'm also a huge fan of the palette and music choices!
Underwater Ambition
especially stood out to me with its
fake-out underwaterness
.

Overall another solid collection of levels from you!

For a hack that wade made in 1 day, it's very creative and unique. My favorite level has to be Midnight Jaunt.
Awesome job E-man.#smrpg{:3}
Kirbo was here
you're definitely in the right path with your palettes, keep going and rise that contrast up even higher.
i'm excited to play this, feels and looks very fresh from what I can perceive from the screenshots.
I've always loved your vibrant palette aesthetic and I saw that in this hack. It was a very simple, fun and cool hack. A long hack like this can be very memorable among standard difficulty hacks.
Now that I've started working, I won't be able to be as active as before. This is really very sad and depressing for me.

By the way my Youtube channel
This hack looks quite interesting and fun. As someone who loved Spesh Planet, I'm looking forward for a good time with this one. The palettes also look fantastic, great job with them. I'll leave my thoughts in the hack page, since my backlog of hacks to play this C3 is quite big. Keep up the good work. #smrpg{y}

Thanks for all the kind words! 😊

Not really, haha. I just tried to make each level stand out from one another by using a different spriteset or group of enemies.

That's fair, the
amount of boss hits
were a hasty and arbitrary decision on my part. I was already planning on updating the hack to add a couple of things I completely forgot about, so I'll be sure to balance that out as well.

Very understandable, haha.

I actually used to feel the same way with unsuccessful attempts of this hack concept in the past. That practice helped a lot though!

I noticed that too as progress on the levels were coming along. I think being put on a short timeframe pushed me to make setups I wouldn't usually come up with.

WAIT!!! I need to clarify that the hack itself was made over the course of 8 days, haha. Its name doesn't really make that clear, but I couldn't come up with anything else before submitting it to the site.

omg YES. I'm so glad I didn't miss out on seeing this. Congrats on the release E-man #smw{:TUP:} can't wait to play it soon (hopefully within the day lol)
