Might as well start with stuff you've seen, and the two-level demo in case it was missed ..

----COPY----

Forlorn Lands has been a side project of mine for a little while, though it is slowly turning into my main. Through the combined efforts of myself, Romi, smkdan, and many others, we have found numerous pieces of data for this game. My final goal is to make this the first YI hack with ASM, and eventually, custom music.

Without further ado, allow me to provide you with a small, two-level demo of my hack. YOU MUST PATCH IT TO A V1.0 (U) YI ROM!

Patch Link Demo/Final Release thread

Here is a small, semi-outdated video of the first level

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TEbOwq5g8Tc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TEbOwq5g8Tc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Feel free to leave comments/questions, and enjoy!

---COPY END---

Ha. Well, I guess you could say this is now my main project. I'm sure most people know that I'm the author of Kamek's Revenge (seeing as how that thread is directly below this one at the time of posting), so I must be really insane to attempt another hack. Oh well.

Anyway, I'll be posting hack updates here from now on. Let me start us off with a bit of a bang - custom music in Yoshi's Island, and level 1-3 of my hack.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v4LWMP-4eCc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v4LWMP-4eCc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It's a small edit of the main map theme. I'm 99% sure it won't be there when I release a "true" demo (world 1-1 - 1-8), but I'd like to show it's possible. I'd also like to thank smkdan for his assistance in tracing this data. It was a long, tough road, but we got it.

Enjoy!

Wow that´s awesome! Very cool the Overworld music! I think this hack will be become famous! Keep up the good work and I can´t wait up to see more SS or videos from your hack.

Playing around with GoldenEgg + EggVine for workflow optimization, hopefully with success...
Levels: Appear natural and in tune with game style. So far so good.

OW Music: Although editing music in YI is a relatively new, tricky deal, the OW music could use a bit of re-working. Make it a bit easier on the cochlea.

Premise: A definite win if completed, and so far, the work put into it is showing. Keep with the style SNN. This might become an epic YI creation if executed properly.

A little fun with the Castle theme.

Traced it tonight. I have a nice little .. replacement "port" for it which I'm hoping to show you guys very soon, but for now, there is that. Heh.
Awesome, another one! Looks epic, I like the forest level especially. Also, edited YI music continues to evolve...quite amazing.
Man! I absolutely love your version of the YI Castle Theme. It feels so much creepier now...I really hope you put that into your hack. :)
There's a problem. When I patched it, to the V1.0 (U) YI ROM!, it shows me something like: "You must deconnect the mouse and super scope to start playing." I have them deconnected and yet it doesn't let me try. What's wrong?
EDIT: My mistake. Anyway. Nice demo.
About a month bump... Forgive me for this, but I might as well point out this.

I gave it a try today. The levels are balanced so far and I enjoyed your demo. And of course, I'm looking forward to your custom music too.

But I have 2 complaints.

1. At the part where sand blocks say "s n n" (I think?) in 1-2, if you use up all seeds of a watermelon or your eggs before you broke all sand blocks, you'll get stuck.

2. Some parts of levels seem not to consider Item Memory. I don't know if there had been a document states about Item Memory, but please read Golden Yoshi's post. What he stated is just correct. Placing items with breaking the Item Memory law will make player unable to record 100 points in certain situations because of disappeared important items.

Here are screenshots showing the places I'm mentioning. I may have overlooked some. But just for your information.

Ah, thanks. I put an egg block there instead so that you cannot get stuck anymore.

Item Memory information

Yes .. Item Memory screwed up my old hack as well, mostly because I didn't know why it was doing it. Turns out that GY was correct, and that the 'double items on the same Y-Axis' issue is true. I've looked at your screenshots, and fixed each of those areas.

No problem on the bump - it was useful information which I was glad to get from you. Thank you.
I've played this hack and, honestly, this is VERY EASIER than you other one (Kamek's Revenge). And, lol, this hack is lovely and funny. You are a true master of hacking!

Fierce Deity is cool.
Workin' in OW request...
Currently attendind Scape Santa, but I don't know what to do...

Yeah. People complained about the difficulty of YIKR, especially towards the end. Let me be brutally honest that I, the creator, struggled with them. I've taken an alternate route on YIFL. While I want to keep the design style of YIKR (people did enjoy that), I want to tone it down. I'm glad it's been noticed.

Also, to those who haven't checked the screenshot thread:

Bit of the first area. I've hacked the buckets using info from my disassembly to make them more worth hitting :).

Custom gradient. Took a while to get it right, but it worked.

Yep .. so I might release a 4 level demo, or I might wait until world 1 is done. I still have to put custom music in it, and tweak some stuff, and then it should be ready.
