How many IPS/ASM patches can be added to a ROM?

I would like to use a few IPS patches, but I'm worried that adding too many will mess up my hack. Does anyone know how many can be added without screwing up the ROM at all
I'm pretty sure you can only use 1 .IPS patch in a ROM, or you'r ROM will crash.

  • nonono, before i was able to use 1-3 patches before my rom overloaded. usually 2, but one time i got 3 in then it crashed on the next one.

It depends. Technically, you can add as many patches as you want as long as you have enigh space in your ROM (You will maybe have to point to free space in ASM patches yourself though). However, some IPS patches need to be added to a clean ROM, so you can't use two of them in a hack of course, since the ROM's not clean after applying teh first patch anymore.

I could use a few patches before my ROM crashed. About 5 patches I used before it crashed. Depends on the file size (I think)
I had used a lot of IPS Patches (about 5 to 7), and my ROM is working fine!

I think it actually depends on the patch. My ROM is 3 MB in size, and I once tried to apply the FastROM Patch (IPS), and my ROM crashed at the intro. However, I used 2 different patches. One of them was IPS and the other was ASM, and my ROM works perfectly fine. Also, your ROM is less likely to crash if you use ASM patches, because then you can just point to freespace. Some IPS patches often point to used data, and they can not be changed. (Which may be the reason IPS patches aren't allowed in the patches section anymore...)
You can insert as many as you want, just be sure that you have enough space AND that the patches don't overwrite each other.
