For me, I believe that there is nothing more important in your teenage and childhood life than grades. In elementary school they don't count as much, but beginning in middle school and high school, things get really big. Consider that grades determine your future. I could slack off and not care now, or I could try to go for a nice, happy life- and I don't think enough people understand that.
So what do you think about grades?
Personally, grades are important to me. However, I don't try to base my life on grades. I believe that learning is the most important part of school. And If people concentrate more on understanding the material/concept being taught, and less on, "How many assignments do I have to do to pass" Then the grades will come naturally. Unfortunately, human nature is more based on tangibility and looks, so grades have been built up to mean more than they should. And that is why the average person sees the grade as important, not the actual knowledge.

--------------------

I really, to be honest, don't try my best in school. And yet, I'm on the A honor roll! So I'm happy! Because for one thing, colleges don't look at middle school grades any way, so say I go D's all through middle school, If I get A's in high school, I go to Harvard! And plus, another thing, grades dont matter to me as much as actually learning the stuff. Say I got an F on a test. As long as know what I did wrong before and now I know how to do it, I'm fine. Don't care. However, once I get to high school, I'll be a little less laid back. Because as I said before, I do great not even at my best!
I believe that grades are more important than other things, but in perspective, not as important as others.

I personally believe as long as you could pass the test at the end of the year, that should be your grade.

You shouldnt have to memorize things that arent going to be in your profession in the future. Such things as the pathagreian therom, and etc etc. Im never going to use half that stuff they teach you in math, so I dont see why I should have to learn it. Yes, I may use some of it in the future, but not all. And if I ever have any questions, all I'd have to do is go on my computer and search it up on google.

I personally think its stupid to memorize stuff that your never gonna use.

Just my perspective.

^math is everywhere, in every job, you can't escape math. Math will be needed when you least expect it, even if it is the "pointless" stuff. Besides, what's so hard about A squared + B Squared= C Squared?

Anyway, I usually get A's (Except for Pre-AP U.S. History, I get high B's there) without really even trying, so yeah. I don't really care about my grades as long as they are higher than a C.
Musicians only have to count to four in reality =)

It's more than that. You've got 16th notes, dotted 16th notes, 8th notes, etc etc. Rythms can be complicated. Oh, let's not forget 5/4 time.

Anyway, usually, memory-wise, I forget the important things, but I remember the non-important stuff.
what's really irritating is that the (US) education system is broken and retarded. Grades are too dependent on so many different things than just knowledge.

Just talked with a relative; apparently SAT/ACT's are total crap. You have to take them seriously, but they have nothing to do with what you know.

However, I don't know how America could do it any other way.
Grades mean nothing if you don't learn from the class. I value a C in a hard class that teaches a lot much more than an A in a very easy class where there is no new material.

I agree 100%. I hate getting low grades on big projects for "lack of creativity" when I know all of the material.
It's a shame really, because colleges don't look at it that way. AP Psychology is very difficult and the tests are insane, but I really enjoy the class and get a lot out of it.
Im ridiculously smart, but I usually get like a 2.8 GPA

I usually get 95+ on tests, but I feel the homework is a waste of my time, so I rarely do it, or do a quick job (bad) on it. I wish grades would be totally dependent on tests, because random assignments you can use the book on, or just copy shouldn't be worth much, or anything IMHO

Well, I don't really need to worry about grades due to me always getting A's. I've been offered to move to Japan just because of my test scores... I don't see why everyone can't get good grades, you just open a book, write some stuff down, and close the book.

The only threat is the dreaded paper cut :P

Pyro X, simple way to put it, pythagorean theory (or theorem, whichever you go by).

I personally think things aren't worth it except in high school. Also, for those who said the US system is broken, I agree. I once got a F on a paper because my teacher thought I put too high level info in my paper, when I understood it fine and so did my friends, (I'm in the IB program). It pisses me off. I happen to be pretty smart so its easier for me even though I don't try much.
Hmm.. I'm in the middle for grades. I don't really try too hard in school, and I get A's or B's. Also, sometimes I wonder why I need to learn certain things- I'm probably not going to play Quadball/Speedball when I'm 22 (10 years later)! Really, the only reasons WHY I get bad grades is because I'm a little careless- sometimes I procrastinate A LOT, or I recycle something that I needed by accident.
I think the grades are cool. But recently, I almost don't have grades anmore! Only numbers! Percents! And that makes my interpretation go wrong a little bit and I hate it.

Our world will stop advancing once humans manage to create sufficient magnificence for a whole lifetime. Until then, I just create.
Awesome video game music on my youtube channel
Percents ARE grades.

I've recently shot for another 4.0 GPA this quarter, as my 2nd quarter was all screwy. (Drama with my freakin' teachers, to put it in one sentence, "oh look I've forgot about these 50 points you got.") There are some who just don't care about their grades at all, and I don't think they realize that they're determining their future. Oh well, we need minimum wage bums to work at McDonalds for the rest of us, so whatever.

Upon retrospect, I'm unsure how the system could be fixed- we just know it's broken.
I think grades determine your future and your job or something, but english in a portuguese school is just a waste of time. (For me anyways...)

Had this been 1-2 years ago, I'd have said "F--k grades. All you need is your mind and spirit"

Wrong on my part.

Grades are a way to save money, and develop trust with parents that cannot be gained elsewhere.

A high GPA can result in scholarships, grants, and other bonuses to go towards college (Or even private high schools). It's the academic world's lottery system, except it's based on academic skill, rather than luck.

Any monkey can get a 4.0 GPA. To maintain them is the tricky part. A person can have a life and not at the same time.

BUT...do not be deceived. Good grades DO NOT equal a happy life. Good grades just serve as a measure of your Academic prowess (Or lack thereof). A happy life is directly connected to you doing something you love for a living.

And that's that.
