Tip: Layer 3 backgrounds and tides disappear when you hit a message box, so unless you apply this fix, plan your level around that. For example, you can add a sublevel without layer 3 at the start/midpoint, and include your message there.
Here's my level, Hilltop House; it has only ONE exit, but 5 Yoshi Coins are scattered out in various places.
Story: Oh boy, it's thundering outside and Mario is too far to get back to his house! At the top of a nearby hill, he sees a house; maybe he could take shelter there! However, when he enters, he realizes the house seems empty... for now.
wow i just now read about this. I bet i can come up with an awesome level in a day. Vanilla hacks are my specialty. Altough, i could just as easily completly forget about it til tomorrow, and then be too late. >_> how bout a 1 day extension on the deadline?
Do you really think I'd extend it just for one person? Only way I'd extend it is if something comes up in my life and I can't close the contest personally at the time stated.

Also, I forgot to state that my level has only one exit, but may be very unlinear at the same time. ;)
Here is something that may help:
Room 1 has exits that lead to Series of Rooms 1 and Series of Rooms 2.
Room 2 has exits that lead to Series of Rooms 3 and Series of Rooms 4.
It's straight-forward from there. If anyone has trouble with the level or is stuck, they can PM me or ask in the help in hacks thread. I'm willing to help.

42 submissions? That's almost as many as last year which was 51. I wonder how many people will be submitting them on the final day tomorrow? I know I'll be one of them. Got to make sure everything looks good before submitting it.
Due to real-life shit, I'm extending the contest until 11:59 PM on Friday, the 27th. It'll make things easier on me. Sorry for the constant delays. Feel free to use this time to polish your levels, or if you've already submitted it, make a few quick changes you may have forgotten before.
YES! Sorry FP, but thank God! I put this off until the last minute, and 2 minutes ago, I was rushing to finish it and gave up hope of finishing it in time. What luck! Now I can do this.
-Mario's feet are sometimes visible underneath the bushes (this happens in original SMW I think)
-Fireballs will travel through the lava falls while ignoring gravity (actually, that's pretty neat XD)
-There is slight cutoffness on one corner that I cannot fix, because there are no GFX for a corner with lava behind it... I just realized I should have edited the palette and use the water one...)
-The way the 2nd half of the level is laid out is completely on purpose, but some people complained about it. Try to keep an open mind.

Wow, that's a lot! I seriously have no idea how you guys can judge them in just a week. I bet a bunch of people (like me) were going to submit on the last day. I also bet a buch of people (like me, again) have put a ton of exits in their levels, though well hidden, of course. You guys are awesome!
Yes, there have been a lot of entries this time around. It's great to participate, but also to see what people come up with. Even with only Lunar Magic, people can demonstrate a high level of creativity and, most of all, fun.
It would be really nice to have some sort of video highlighting bits and pieces from each of the submitted hacks once the contest ends. Having a level compilation hack could work too, but the former would be more accessible in my opinion.
