Hi everyone, I have deleted my copy on SMWC from the Kaizo contest a little while back, but I've been working on it, and I'm proud to say it is finally finished, complete with a brand new tough-as-nails boss. It is still called Mario's Evil Level, so some of you may remember it. I've uploaded it now, so everyone is free to try it. I don't have any screenshots yet, but please send me a PM if you enjoy it, or would like to leave me feedback.

Thanks, Mapsking

PS, can a mod please update the link for the hack, in the list of Kaizo hacks? It is

http://bin.smwcentral.net/10267/Mario%27s%20Evil%20Level%20for%20SMWCentral.zip

ThanksThanks, Mapsking

Uh, seance?
Off course this thread has kaizos, that's the point. It just has to be posted to get on the list.
I'd like to point out EVW contains a "Kaizo breaker" level where the goal is to break kaizo levels. If your looking for something hard then I'd try the non breaking route.

Just a pleasant screen from the normal route

Uh... So, is this an update, or a brand new level?

From what I understand this is an update to 'Mario's Evil Level', entered in the Kaizo contest, and also linked to in this thread.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Insane hacks and Vanilla hacks is release a few days.</b>

Pancakes for everyone!

@Ultimaximus,

This is the same level you played, but much improved, in almost every area. Since I know you missed playing it, I would highly encourage you to redownload it, and enjoy it! Also, I've sent you a link for your YT account, for a generic version... :-)

Overall, the same rules still apply, no graphical glitches, possible, and intended to be beaten without the use of slowdown, but several areas that were breakable have been fixed, some difficulty has been added, more custom graphics, and also two of my own custom music ports. All in all, lots of really cool stuff, but ultimately, the biggest difference is the addition of a brand new, never before seen custom boss!

Try it out, and let me know what you think? Thanks, Mapsking
In the Kaizo Collab, I've reached this jump in the Bowser's Ruins stage. Is it possible, or did I miss something?

I've been stuck here for hours.
It's possible

Even when I hit the spring, Mario just bounces up into the muncher above. I'm now using x10 slowdown. Should I just attempt to walljump at the left? It doesn't look like I'm even close.
I believe it is possible, perhaps more slowdown?
In the TAS of this level this section was skipped by making a path in the turn blocks with a shell, I found it too hard as well and walljumped.

If you are going to try the jump try spinjumping into the wall at your left and attempting to move in a straight diagonal line past the munchers. Also let go of the jump button as you hit the spring. This got me quite close.

Also you might want to try to go to the left back up after reaching the spring (don't land), I don't know if this makes is harder, impossible or easier but at any rate it's something I haven't tried.

What path exactly did the creator intend for me to go? Was I supposed to hit the blocks with the shell?
I think you were supposed to go onto the springboard go to the right and go into the pipe (Its possible)
Well, I'll try make the jump for another 2 hours. If I can't do it, I'll have to try the turn block route.

Anyways, I'm starting a Kaizo hack. Does anyone know how to use ExGFX without screwing up the original graphics? If not, I'll add custom blocks and use a green ? block or something.

Before inserting ExGFX, be sure to extract the original GFX (red mushroom icon) from your hack in Lunar Magic and then re-insert it (green mushroom icon). Also, make sure your ExGFX files are not above 4 KB in file size.

I'm probably retired tbh

Just make sure you use ExGFX rather than GFX at every point and you will not have edited the origional graphics at all.

I've played through the first few levels, and I must say the looks are quite good for a kaizo hack. However this is as much of a burden as it is a help.

The looks of your levels, the custom blocks and attention to detail seem to fit in an ordinary Mario hack. Although it is great to avoid floating munchers and the likes this also distracts the player from the level design and makes him/her start paying more attention to the background. This becomes really annoying at simple jumps or if you can't figure out a puzzle, there's so much detail a secret could be hidden anywhere. And as this hack is kaizo (well, it's in this thread after all) the players will assume secrets ARE hidden in hard-to-find spots, perhaps even secrets the player is obligated to find.

Custom graphics are a great plus for any hack, especially beautiful ones. And decoration is what finishes any hack, no bouts about that. But here I feel like you over-decorated a little, sorry.

Also some segments really could be a lot harder, for example some bullet bill jumps which can be extended by a lot of tiles (at some point up to 10 tiles can be removed!).

Well, to conclude: I think this hack is PERFECT for introducing inexperienced players to kaizo-style hacks, but if you're looking for something as hard yet simple as kaizo 1 this is not the place to search. A great hack!

ARGH! I hate gaps this SMALL!

BTW, all the levels seem to be accessible already.

EDIT: Finally made it through. What the heck?! I know this is Kaizo but COME ON that's TOO HARD. It took me about 20 attempts using 4x slowdown.
iloveluarenp:

If you've made something too hard, even for kaizo, it's time to rethink your level design.
The Kaizo trap at the end of Precarious Pond (Yet Another Mario World)... could anybody give me a clue on how to avoid it? Or should the player insert frame perfect input to slow mario down in the water preventing him from reaching the pit? I need some help on this level...
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.
