I've been trying to figure this out
Which BG looks better with this FG? (palette-wise)

EDIT: tell me if you know of a BG that's better than both of these
I like the first screen shot better, palette wise. Also the perspective on that first background is amazing.
I'm actually a bit more fond of the second one, since it's more subdued and matches the FG a tad more. They'd both be great though.
The second screen, the FG is easier to see for my eye.
I say the First one. The combination is so amazing my brain connot comprehend the win.
I think the second one matches more, both pallete- & GFX-wise.
Your layout has been removed.
Unemployed: I like the idea in theory, but I don't think that having the same ground under different palettes is a good idea. How about just having a template for many sorts of slopes and some decorations?

Dinomar: Heh, you're better at drawing realistically proportioned people than I am!

Wrinkly's save cave: ExAnimate the saws, and the overworld could use some touching up. Terrain octagons under level tiles etc.

Edit: I think you should use the second one, because it fits in with the style of the FG.

edit: Surely the first. It's like a kick in the face. A kick of pure joy.

Additionally, mountainy backdrops are a bit overdone in SNW hacks. The beatiful, endlessly expansive meadow is simply something different, and worth using for this reason alone.

l dont understand, what do you mean? There are 3 different tilesets, not 1, under 4 palettes, not counting numerous decorations in the same 4 palettes. Its meant to be a system people can all contribute graphics to. What changes would you suggest to improve?
@Dinomar: Man, you are a great artist, it's a shame you got ignored by the screens you posted, they are great.

@Edit: 1st has the better palette, but the 2nd seems to fit better, maybe try the second with the BG color heading more towards 'lime' green.

@Edit The first. It looks beautiful, and the palette is great.

Kamek....

i was testing out sprite editing with the marine pop sprite and i made a shmup-styled level with Darius Twin graphics

<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h0pGmV9cwPo&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h0pGmV9cwPo&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0x006699&color2=0x54abd6&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>

i know some of the gfx and palettes and sprites are bleh but this was pretty much a test of that whole level
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
Kamek, it looks alright, but the neck could use more work so it doesn't seem to end abruptly.

for those who dont like kaizo, this is the kaizo master's palace (normal mode) but this probably will be in the final version
I do pixels sometimes

Ignore the wacky entrance. I'm trying to get that fixed. :|
