Well, there's not much to show for the hack at this time, but we might as well have the thread for it. Plus, level signups shouldn't be TOO far away. I'm thinking late-April, early-May.

Anyway, I've got a picture of Level 001 here. This will be World 1-1 of the hack, the first one.

(It's a little outdated, the GO! and a few other things have been removed)

I've got an image of the second level I'm working on but I'll post it some other time.
Just a quick question, is there any limit on how much we should show to the public who isn't part of the production? Y'know, spoilers and all...

<-- this is the dope on dope
Doubt it. We're gonna keep everything public through all of SMWC, since the whole forum is meant to join in. Otherwise this'd be named differently.

This is a thing that's happening, now. Achievements in old video games.
Thank you for the layout, Erik557.
Man, I wish this would've worked. Oh well.
If not for respect, but dramatic effect, take on the face of Guy Fawkes.
Just waiting for the template patch.

They don't clash that badly...

First few screens of a level I was working on, kept it vanilla for collaborative purposes. Is it too linear? Level design wasn't really my strongpoint, but I'm trying to get better, and maybe good enough to contribute a few to this X_X

The level design is actually quite good! It has sections where the player must backtrack, and maybe some side-paths.

I suggest extending the area that the green shell-less koopa who comes out of a turn block lands on.

Also, I see that you're using new MAP16 tiles, like the flipped muncher and the land donuts in the first part.
Oh man, I CAN'T wait to sign-up; I have so many level ideas for this hack.
What do the blue apples do?

I think it's the pink ones with a different palette.
That's exactly what they are.

Honestly, that level looks a bit awkward to play. I have no idea what the vine about the start point is for, and both the fire flower and 1-up are potential death-traps, because you can get stuck there. My advice? Don't try TOO hard to make your level non-linear, and try to make each "area" of the level flow together nicely.
Here is a level I made today for An SMWC Production.

Comments?
That's the whole level? It doesn't even have a midpoint it's so small! also, How do you get to the key in the center?

I'll make it bigger. The key is there for decoration at the moment, but will be hidden when in the rom.

Edit: Do you like the palette?

It's pretty okay... I don't like the top orange color though. Here's a way to make better gradients:

Only make the first and last color of the gradient, then right-click on them while holding Alt. This will automatically create a good-looking gradient. ;)

The second level I'm working on. It's going to be between Worlds 4 and 5. All FG/BG graphics are custom by me. (minus the launcher)
What happened to no graphical clashing? Not that I see a problem with it...

Your layout has been removed.
Clashing? It's still an SMW style in my mind.
I agree; could be worse.
