Vanilla Level Design 2009: Results

Link Thread Closed

VLDCResults

After a long, long, LONG wait, I am happy to say that the results are finally tallied. I would like to first say congratulations to everyone who has participated. Excluding a few of you, you have all worked incredibly hard on these levels, and each of you deserve a pat on the back for your efforts. Unfortunately, only a select few of you made it into the top 3...but don't be discouraged.

I also want to give a thanks to everyone who has waited patiently for the results. Most of you have waited very patiently for the results, and I thank you for putting up with this whirlwind tour.

Before I crown our LDC winners, here is a message from FirePhoenix, who is unable to attend this momentous ceremony:

Congratulations to all the winners! Sorry it took so long and that all that stuff happened during judging, but the contest is finally over. I very much enjoyed judging the levels that I was able to and hopefully if we have a 3rd annual contest things in my life won't interrupt as badly as they did this year. Once more, congrats to the winners and good job to all those that participated!

And here are the individual judging texts:

FirePhoenix/Foursword4's Judging
ShodanWii's Judging

Congratulations to our top 3 finalists! You all proved that you have what it takes to outweigh the competition using clever usage of the original limitations of the game. I can say that each of you have put a great deal of effort into your levels, and should be extremely proud of your work. Congrats...you all deserve it!

And with that, I can finally bring all of this to a close. Until next time, this is Foursword4, signing off.

EDIT: I have to sign back in because I forgot to mention something. Due to some issues in compiling the results, some of the final scores were only drawn from one judge rather than both. This was due to one judge either skipping or overlooking an entry. Due to time restraints, I just couldn't delay this any longer. Needless to say, the levels that were slightly penalized for this didn't suffer greatly, as they already received a good score. And with that, I'm officially signing off.

EDIT2: Due to mathematical complications, certain scores were skewed in negative, as well as positive ways. Now, the results SHOULD be correct. All of the names highlighted in green had mathematical mistakes. I put a note besides each name that notes the difference in points now that the score is fixed. Thank you Baby King Bowser Koopa for pointing out all of the mistakes. You saved me a lot of time.
Awesome. I'm surprised and honored to have received second place!

This contest was a whole lot of fun, and it was great to see what people did using only Lunar Magic. Congrats to you all. :)

EDIT: Video if you'd like to see my entry.
wow, finally.
just kidding.

Anyways, congrats to all the winners and participants in general. I had a feeling Déjà Vu Tower would be pretty high up there. Although I personally thought "Mario in Miscland" would win, but whatever.
Congratz to everyone on the LDC!
not a surprise to me to not get any place, meh i liked make the level and use the normal tiles to get new tilesets, congrats to the winners!
I do pixels sometimes
No big surprise for me, either. When Ultimaximus pointed out all the things I'd screwed up, I knew that my entry's title, intended to be a pun, would turn out to be a regular epitome of my attempt at making something worthy to show to the public. My biggest problem was simply not testing the phase (level) thoroughly; if I had tested everything, I would have seen some of the glitches and whatnot. It stinks...that was my one chance to look like a good hacker, and I ended up looking like a n00b.

Well, better luck next time, I guess. I'll have to look at the winning entry and note some of the comments...

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I had to judge FS4's level since .. well, FP stopped before reaching it, and it would be unfair if FS4's level was disqualified for something like that. Hopefully everyone is happy with the results.

(I am extremely disappointed that DIFFICULTY EXTREME! only got 17/50. I totally worked hard on that level in spirit while I was away in the Dominican. :( )
I did better then expected, huh. Isn't it supposed to be 2009, not 08?
Check out my profile for awesomeness!
I was actually under the impression that this started sometime at the end of last year, but I was mistaken. Sorry about that.
Alright! It was nice seeing that I did pretty well. Congratulations to everyone who entered! This was a fun contest.
You're ignoring the fact that FirePhoenix and Foursword4 judged more strictly than ShodanWii did, so as a result multiple levels got different scores than they should have; you even admitted you ignored this. As a result, these results might not necessarily be accurate. I definitely won't ignore this, as I'm one of the people whose score was hurt by this...

Anyway, congrats to everyone, and extra congrats to yoshicookiezeus, Supertails, and Dinomar for earning the three highest scores in this contest. I'll have to try out your levels sometime soon.

Also, I noticed an error. In ShodanWii's entry for Click Clock Wood, the score given is a 48 when it should be a 49.

Also again, is it just me, or did either FirePhoenix or Foursword4 deduct points for a hard level? I got a score of 7/10 and the only comment on the difficulty was that the P-switch gimmick made it difficult, and I don't see anything wrong with that... D:

Although ShodanWii's grading of my level seemed a little disinterested - straight 8/10's with no comments, I am still satisfied with recieving 3rd place. Congrats to winners, etc. Genericness
Your layout has been removed.
Hey! My old account (Brontoman) got a 40 out of 50! I almost made it into the fifth place category ^.^ yay! Even though I got a 47/50 from ShodanWii XD.

A 33 from FirePhoenix/Foursword4's Judging
A 47 ShodanWii's Judging

I like ShodanWii better =P, but Firephoenix/Foursword4's Judging had some great points.

Yay! I scored near the top of the fifths!

At least it's better than I did in the OW design contest!
Now with extra girl and extra hacker
Meh, I guess 12th isn't bad for my first time doing this, but I guess my strategy wasn't so great. I'll be back next year!

Also, congrats on your victory, yoshicookiezeus! Hopefully I won't have to compete with another one of your levels next year (or I'll be a judge, who knows?)

Nice to see the results. Congrats everyone there were a heck of a lot of incredible levels. My only disappointment is that I didn't get much commentary on my level, which just makes me more grateful for ultimaximus for his commentary earlier and my beta testers for giving more detail.

I do find the judging odd though. I got a 50/50 with essentially no comments from one judge, while the other's primary comment was "nothing special." To each his own I guess, I'm certainly satisfied with the overall results.

I'll definitely be going back and playing several of the levels that I missed.
I'll congratulate not only the winners, but everyone for participating. The good thing is you tried. :)
Wow! Congratulations to the winners! Especially yoshicookiezeus, I've played his hack, and I think it awesome too. From the beginning I was flurried for him. :)
...I won? After having played through all of the submitted levels, I wasn't expecting that...

40/50 sounds good to me.

I can only find the judging in one of the files though. :/
