I'm having a bit of a problem with the sprite display. Note the black space behind the two sections of tall grass on the right, and another black line above it:

It looks like the sprite data isn't displaying there for some reason. This is my code (layout disabled for better viewing):

Does anyone know the problem here?
I would think you have filled the top space with sprites. There are 2x 64x64 sprites, which results some tiles disappearing. You might want to use edit's No sprite tile limits patch in the level with the cutscene.

You can download my VLDC12 entry here.

Just wanted anyone who has it to know.

No one noticed my post? I don't know why, but I still need that VWF converter tool.
Reading, I'm sure that's a glitch by Romi's Spritetool, but it could also be you maxed out the amount of tiles you can put down. That graphics-heavy scene could be a problem to render.

Hamtaro126: Don't have it, sorry :\
The No Sprite Limits patch didn't work, so I tried reducing the amount of sprite tiles by cutting some blocks off the width of the cutscene. It works now - although it might look odd when compared to other cutscenes that have a wider width, like this one.

Should I reduce all of the screens to this size?

Am I doing something different than the rest of you?

Shameful that I got stuck THIS early...

If anyone has any suggestions here, I'd appreciate it... maybe I'll try downloading it at a friends house and then bring it back to my computer...

Well, open up temp.log (in your ROM folder). It'll report the line # the error is on, so Ctrl + G and jump to that line and post the error over here. It could sound like some table got messed up.
Line 236{2}:

.ForcedEnd PEA .ReturnedCommand-1

Line 672:

PEA .ReturnedCommand-1

Aha, you're using an outdated xkas. Use the one which I uploaded last page or so.
Yeah thank you, I didn't see that ^^

*Edit* *again*

Ok, I found the latest version of xkas on the previous page, but that's done precicely fuck all. I get the identical error message, and the same stuff in temp.log.

Namely,

Help?

--------------------
Sounds like vwf.bin and width.bin is in the wrong folder. Put them in the same folder as tmpasm.asm.
(Note: I haven't tried this tool, but I know a bit about xkas)

Ok, all that was wrong was that some files weren't in the sprite tool folder... (To be honest I don't think that was made massively obvious, but then again it might just be me being stupid.

Anyway... The cutscenes work now. Kinda.

"Kinda"??!? Well yeah, they are slightly broken.

Wow. Note the big blue garbage chunk, the lack of cursor (Yes I have the GFX file loaded in SP1) and the lack of Topic Header thing. Apart from that, they work pretty good.

Why is this??!?

I'm guessing it's something to do with the VRAM rearrangement patch. It's like this with all the cutscenes I've tried.

--------------------
The font converter seems to be down as well...
I gots a problem with Romi's SpriteTool. I put everything where it's supposed to go, but then when I insert it into my hack, It says "xkas reported error. Refer to temp.log and temp.asm" and then temp.log says "error: tmpasm.asm: line 236{2}: invalid opcode or command [PEA .ReturnedCommand-1]
error: tmpasm.asm: line 672: invalid opcode or command [PEA .ReturnedCommand-1]
INIT 008000
MAIN 00807b"

What's this mean?

My hack is coming along.
You're using the wrong version of xkas. Use this one.

Thanks so much!

To those who wanted the Font converter: Here it is.

Ok, i've now tried all of the defualt scenes that the tool comes with, and I get this same result.

-The text itself works, and scrolls alright.
-Sprites don't appear.
-The arrow thingy doesn't appear (Even though the GFX is inserted into sp1).
-There's the big blue chunk of glitch that moves around randomly and erraticly whenever the text moves.

But apart from that, it's still perfect.

Jesus, why does nothing every work for me first time??
