I was actually hoping there'd be a slightly larger turnout for this, but it sounded like a lot of people procrastinated or were daunted by all the things they could do for this sort of contest. It didn't seem to be much of a problem for the vanilla contests we've had in the past.
Though I ended up doing the same thing too. It was difficult to sit down and just put a level together, but I'm looking forward to trying out a few of the submitted levels.
So before I submitted my hack I decided to shorten it from being a long level to a standard length level. At first, I felt really bad that my level was shortened. I was sort ok with the idea of it because I didn't want the level to be too long and repetitive where the player would end up losing interest.
But at the same time, I already made all the necessary levels (my hack was the castle that had different rotated variations) and graphics. In the end, about 70% of the work I did on that ended up being unused, which was really annoying. But I felt like if I didn't go ahead and shorten the level, it would have ended up being a lot more boring. But inversely, now I feel like the level is too short and potentially uninteresting due to the rotating being a novelty effect that's used for about 2 minutes. But this could also just be because of the fact that I put the castle together tile by tile four times and am just sick of it already.
Well, I did get my level suzbmitted, but I didn't have time to check everything and thus it had some glitches. Too bad SNN played the glitched version, because I couldn't submit the fixed version before the deadline. :<
Whatever, it's just one contest, but yeah, my level could've been much better with the fix.
I plan on playing all the levels submitted, and so far I have played Atma's, NoobishNoobsicles, and am currently playing Jimmy's.
Those were good, but Noobish's has some glitches(but he fixed them in time).
Jimmy's has some fatal glitches in the volcano vertical level part .
Luckily I used savestates and got past them.
oh, but I submitted the level like before the 30th, and he PM'ed me saying the hyperlink didn't work so he said I could upload it to the File Bin. I'm waiting for him to respond or should I just assume it did if he doesn't say anything anymore?
Judging seems to be going smoothly. I've gotten through a little over half of them now, and the other judges are pretty far along as well. If all goes well, we might have the results up by Sunday morning.
