SMB3, or Yoshi's Island.
I would say SMB3.
| Gonna have to go with SMB3 too. It's amazing how hard that game was able to push the NES's hardware to the limit, all the while continuing the trend of great design. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Mario Galaxy were especially strong entries as well, in my opinion. They both had great soundtracks too. |
I think Super Mario Galaxy amazed me enough to make it my favorite Mario game. I absolutely loved the design of the courses, and like Supertails said, the soundtrack was wonderful. SMB3 is a close second, though.
Strangely enough, It's Somari.

Mario forever, super mario bros 3, super mario 64, and super mario world.

Yoshi's Island is my favorite, since I played it back in my early days .. not to mention I just loved how fun and unique it was at the time.
A close second goes to Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. That simply has the best soundtrack out of any Mario game, IMO, as well as being awesome to play in general.
