SMW - Translations - SMW Hacking Discussion

So i was wondering i dont see any Translating topics anywhere on the board so i thought id make one.

Well how about it? Im currently changing the Original SMW's text to Hungarian and if anyone has ideas to add for other languages feel free to post it here

Szuper Márió Világa (SMW's title in hungarian i will need custom gfx for that but other than that and the enemy titles in the ending its simple to change)

I have had an interesting idea of translating SMW into French. This could be added to the list, but it could take time for me.

I had an idea to directly translate smw from japanese. On a website some of the level names were different for instance the sunken ghost ship is called Ramune Trench Sunken Ship. Ramune is a citrusy soft drink in Japan. Going along with the food theme of the level names, this course could've been translated as "Soda Pop Trench Sunken Ship.

I had an idea of translateing SMW into Danish.

Many times I got motivation to make a Hungarian version of Super Mario World. Well, it couldn't be a big work, I think (although redrawing the letters, the ghost house sign), but somehow I never started making it. Maybe a bit later...

There are some translated SMW games that are in the Hacks section. I suggest taking a look to make sure it hasn't already been done, and to see some of the changes made to translate it.

That would be too long, i think. Soda Pop Sunken Ship might've fit. But Directly translating the whole game? It's been done already.

Well of course there are slight differences, usually because of the fact that it's being translated.

, and yeah, it's pretty pointless as nintendo already did it. I still want to do it, but I'm lazy. :/

Well, if it's one SMW game that I haven't seen translated would be the romanian one. Well, mainly beacuse there's almost no one from Romania around here, except here. I might try it, but there are some missing characters: ă. î. â, ş, ţ and the bigger characters of the near one. Only if the people would consider ă or â=a, î=i, ş=s and ţ=t, it would be fine. I might give it a go, but I'm not sure if I want to. Anyway, sounds like a really good idea.
Edit: Some texts in the message boxes are long, so shorting its translation is an only solution. And that Super Mario World title can't be really changed, unless sacrificing some layer 3 GFX.
Off-topic: How do I change the 1 Player Game and 2 Player Game? And also the "Mario A", "Mario B", "Mario C", the Erase Data, the "End" and the "Erase Mario A", "Erase Mario B" and "Erase Mario C" text in the title screen? Also the text "The End" at the end of the game?
EDIT2: Can I still leave the english SMW title into the romanian one?

I tried a Finnish translation but I was too lazy to do ä, Ä, ö and Ö ExLetterGFX.

Meh, I can translate into French. Since it's my language and I'm not SO bad in English, that would be a piece of cake.

I'm trying to translate SMW to Luxembourgish, but before I'm going to translate the rest of the box messages and the level names, I will have to translate the ending message.

Here's a list of what I've already done:
- Changing "TIME" to "ZAIT"
- Editing some GFX, like the "EXIT" panel to "SORTIE" (I know, it's French, but the Luxembourgian language borrows some French words)
- Changing the "Nintendo Presents" logo
- Translating the first box messages located in the ROM file
- Translating the "File Select", "Delete", Game Over and Save menus

What I still have to translate:
- Enemy names (not going to be a piece of cake, I'll have to say)
- Level names
- The rest of the box messages
- The ending message (not the credits)
- The boss sequence text

How would you do it anyway? By replacing the Luigi text?

Nope, it's possible with Smallhacker's Status Bar editor too.

I could translate the game into a stupid kind of language. Pig latin anyone?

Try using the Misc. Text Editor in the Tools section. There's also a tool for editing Peach's Thank You Message.

Maybe i translate to swedish...But that might be pointless since almost nobody talks that language...But it would be kinda funny to have smw in swedish! =P
