I'm frustrated by this whole thing. I've looked at all the FAQ's, for all of my problems, and none of them are solved.

Here's what I've tried and failed at doing:

Block Tool
Layer 2
Custom Sprites

I need help!

Yes I did read the documents. For Block Tool and Inserting Custom Sprites, and I mean the ones on the site you can download, I follow the steps, but it doesn't work for me. And for Layer 2, I can't get it to use objects. It tells me to use the background editor, which doesn't help me at all.

Layer 2: Set level mode to 02 for an horizantal layer 2 level and to 08 for a vertical layer 2 level.

Custom blocks: You have to put the block in the same folder as block tool, then open the block database in block tool (Blocks->Edit database), press the + icon, then put some info on it depending on the readme, once you're done, click on the checkmark icon and CLOSE THE DATABASE (to prevent a bug in Block tool) and add blocks (the new added block will be at the very bottom and don't forget to open your ROM in block tool!).

Custom sprites: Put the sprite files (the CFG and ASM files) in the folder it goes, if it's a shooter, then put it in the shooters folder, if it's a sprite, sprites folder, and generators go in the generators folder, now add it to the sprite list.

Sprites use numbers from 00-AF.
Shoters use numbers from C0-CF.
And generators use number from D0-DF.

Save the sprite list and insert with sprite tool.

I hope it helps.

Umm... yeah thanks for pointing that out. :O
Scientific genius! Also BLM you forgot to mention that you need to put it in a notepad document and it has to look like this:
Insertspritehere.cfg

Okay...um...yeah, that didn't help at all... Bad luck man, how exactly do I set the level mode? I looked around and I don't see anything. For Block Tool, I mean the blocks that are already in block tool. How do I get them into the game? I can't find te "Map 16 number" it keeps asking for. And for the custom sprites, I didn't know there was a sprite tool, heh heh... but still! I got that part, Bad luck, but how do I put it in the game?

Click Mario's head and on the top of the window will be a scroll box called SNES registers and level modes. For you it will be set to 0. Change it to 2.

Uh, BLM already did:

For Block Tool, download it, open your ROM in it, pick a block from the list, pick the corresponding Map16 number you want the block on (in decimal - use Windows Calculator to convert)

I.E. Map16 number 3F9 converts to 1017.

After that, save, open LM, and choose your block from the Map16 page. Chances are that you'll need to draw your own GFX for it.

For Sprite Tool, download it, run the EXE for it, type the name of your ROM (make sure it is in the same folder) and then type the name of the sprite list (sprites.txt - you can edit the list itself to have more sprites) Once you've done that, open LM, click sprite editing mode, and then hit Insert on your keyboard. There will be four boxes to write data in - the first is the sprite number you want to load (open sprites.txt - the number is there), the next two you can leave blank (since you're just going to move the sprite around anyway) and the Extra Bit info should be either 2 or 3, depending on what you want the sprite to do, or if it uses the Extra Bit. After that, click OK, and your sprite will appear in the top left corner. The graphics won't be right - they will never be right in LM.

There you go.
Sorry, I hate to hijack this thread but how do you make a level move up and down using layer 2? As I'm trying to recreate several levels which use this feature.

If you insert a custom sprite at, say, 5, and a red koopa is 5, will all the red koopas in the game become that custom sprite?

P.S. LWares, use a layer 2 scroll sprite, under special commands and generators on the add sprite list.
No, it dosen't replace the sprite. -_- Except the Poison Mushroom, but it has to be inserted as 85 and that's an unused sprite.
