I would like to know, is it possible to start the credits on a rom without having to face Bowser please.

Yes, it is possible. To do that, go to the overworld editor and click on "Overworld --> Change Boss Sequence Levels...". I think it only works with boss battles though, normal exits won't activate the credits.

But there is a custom sprite that lets you do that when all enemies on the screen are dead.
