Hack Name: Yoshi: The Wild Egg Capsule Chase - Demo 1

Author: StripeyDope - Submitted by: StripeyDope
Description: This is a demo.

Taken from the official thread:

Mario has fractured his skull because he hit his head on too many question blocks. Luigi is on vacation and will "only come back if [he] absolutely [has] to." Peach is on Mario's bedside and will not leave. Therefore, it's up to Yoshi to find a doctor!

But, this isn't as easy as one might think. Bowser is long gone by now. His minions have capitalized on this situation not by taking Peach (again), but by taking all the egg capsules. in the Mushroom Kingdom! They think if there's no medicine to aid Mario, the poor plumber will die.

Fortunately, he will not. But if Yoshi takes too long, Mario will have to spend the rest of his life as a vegetable. So is Yoshi against the clock, or a shitload of enemies?

Removal: "Super Dark World Demo"
Author: RawkHawkDude22
Description: "This is a demo for the upcoming rom hack Super Dark World. This demo has five levels. The five levels are fully remade. Not all levels in Super Mario World will be in Super Dark World but most of them will be. So enjoy this demo. Hopefully the full version will be finished soon"

Garbage on the title screen.

Glitched note block bounce graphic. Cut-off gray lava.

Floating cutoff water. How can this NOT make any sense?!

A boring series of spinjumping across Thwomps. Also, even though it's not possible to see the bottom row of tiles, there are more munchers underneath.

Cutoff again.

Sprite memory error. Big Boo is not compatible with this sprite memory setting. Also, terrible Big Boo palette.

More sprite memory errors, this one involving a green gas bubble making Mario invisible. Terrible lava palette.

Cutoff. That is not how you make a pit.

If you clear the level, you die. There is no way to avoid this.

Floating stacked munchers.

NAME: Super Mario World 3
AUTHOR: Kiminaru
DESCRIPTION: A hack designed in a similar manner to Nintendo's Super Mario World. This is a hack I have been working on very slowly for roughly four years. 90-95% of the levels came straight out of my head, since I originally made this hack to test my skills at making levels without planning them. Although the hack has no ExGFX, it still has ample challenges to offer to players and is not recommended for beginners. I installed a small ASM to fix a few graphical issues.

Please note that this hack contains a completely optional Special World that is filled with levels that cannot be beaten without tools; I made them to test my skills at making difficult levels. Fortunately, you don't need to complete them to achieve 100% (all 95 exits) in this hack.

Without further ado, I hope you enjoy the hack!

Reasons

This edge shouldn't really be solid. It feels kind of weird being stopped like this.

Midway bars shouldn't be inserted through Direct Map16 Access, since they'll reappear every time you enter the level. Not a big deal though.

You might want to give the player more space to walk through in these spots... It's a little tedious going through these narrow passages when you're not small.

The goal tape goes way too high here.

Although it's fine the way it is now, why not just disable the event that leads to the Yellow Switch Palace instead of replacing it with this?

Wrong corner tile.

If you collect all the coins above you when the P-switch is active (which I did), you can't get up there anymore after it runs out. Easiest solution: Put a cement block there (or anything not collctable when a switch is active) to make sure you can't collect all your stepping stones.

Another wrong corner tile (next to the Sumo Brother). Also, his flames look odd, since only two are actually attached to the ground.

Munchers on vines might be acceptable, but vines on munchers produce a little cutoff.

Being able to go past the goal point isn't a bad thing, but encountering a cutoff ledge at the end is.

I don't think there's any way out of this pit.

Note blocks don't work well with the Castle tileset.

The spike cuts off the net.

Okay, so apparently you need to bring a Throw Block with you, throw it at the yellow Koopa to make him jump over it, and bounce off him when he's jumping to reach the ledge up there. Don't you think that's a bit too hard of a challenge for a first castle (or any castle, for that matter)? You should really replace this section with something easier.

Bad ground palette.

*insert generic "not bad overall, but there' still some things left to fix" here*

My Hacks:

Hack Moderation
---------------/

Sorry this was late; been distracted by MW2 and YouTube for so long.

Hack Name: "New Mario" - 1.1 MB - 30 downloads.
Length: 42 levels
Author: Ray321lolz - Submitted by: Ray321lolz
Description: NEWEST VERSION! DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE OTHER ONE! THE PATCH IS CORRUPTED AND WON'T do anything. Special Thanks to forte.exe for graphics.

Oh boy, this hack. I remember moderating this a few times already.

House
-----/

The palette for the "New Mario" lettering above is a bit strange.

I'm not sure why you'd put goombas above and it really doesn't matter, but you may want to enable layer priority for these tiles.

Store/Overworld
---------------/

Just a thought, but did you purposely prevent the player from entering the store? Also got to say that this is one of the wackiest overworlds I've seen (not to be taken as an insult).

..However, you can still walk around the overworld and skip just about EVERY level. Again. Again.

Taking any of these pipes lead me...

..directly to the goal room. Not really sure if this was intended, but if it was, this is too short a level.

Black Forest
------------/

..What exactly are these blocks? Please explain somewhere or give a block tutorial.

..Oh my lord, someone has beheaded Chuck! ..Or maybe his head disappeared because of sprite memory issues.

Also, sprite memory issues make sprites completely invisible too.

The large pipe has slight "cut-off" where it meets the thin platforms.

This tile is passable. Just a heads up.

Like in the beginning, there's no indication that these blocks kill you.

You can walk through this slope.

Umm.. didn't know you could climb this. BTW, this actually looks a bit cool.

If you were trying to completely block the player from going over, you failed.

Didn't know this was a shop. Also, you can also buy things without turning them into brown blocks by walking over them.

Again, no indication that this water screws with your timer.

Cloudy Mountains
----------------/

...It's very hard to see white on white. It's almost invisible.

slowdown aaaaaa

What the hell is going on here? Something is causing Mario to become stunned while shaking the screen.

I don't know how you did it, but you made the Jumping Plant go behind the clouds.

Can you find the floating muncher? I'll give you a hint: It's floating in the clouds.

Very hard-to-see "cut-off" rope at the ends.

Red Switch Trail
----------------/

..I see what you're trying to do with the blocks, but the pattern just doesn't make it work.

Sometimes the invisible coin blocks cause this to happen, since this is a Switch Palace.

Not much of a problem, but some text would be nice.

What. I was at the Switch Palace, but now I'm at the House?

Green Valley
------------/

That medal-looking object is placed on a subscreen boundary, which can give you infinite lives if standing on it. Also, I can see you didn't fix the wall to the right from last time...

Oh look, a vanishing cloud that I mistook for a safe platform.

Another subscreen boundary medal. Also, the trap below is so deliciously evil. I love it.

..Just wanted to take a break here and say how lovely this palette and song are-WHAT THE HELL FLOATING POW! The picture may not show it too well, but the Switch is sliding around in midair.

Still left this "react quickly or you'll die" bit in.

I know you explained it and all, and I'm probably stressing the both of us out right now, but really now? These green and yellow blocks are quicksand?

Huh. For some reason after beating that level, the palette of the overworld changed.

Speed Challenge 1
-----------------/

Just wanted to let you know that if you play this as Super Mario/Luigi, you're fucked.

Just a minor thing, but once the P-Switch runs out, the music resets.

You can walk on the lowest row seen in Lunar Magic, which also isn't supposed to be used because no one can see the actual row.

How are you supposed to know that this moon is actually the goal?

...Okay, something strange is going on here. How did I come out to the Red Switch Palace?

Abondoned Ship
--------------/

Yes, you misspelled "Abandon".

I can see why people abandoned "ship"; there was no ship to begin with.

Season Forest
-------------/

Oh, how nice of you to give me a timer block even though there is no timer.

Once you fall in here, you are stuck. What's worse is that there is no timer.

I'm guessing that this season is supposed to freeze the water, since I'm standing on it. The problem with this is that it looks like Mario is walking on air. You may want to fix the graphics for that or re-do the Map16.

Putting the tree trunks on top of the water makes Mario fall through the trunks instead of swimming.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I guess I'll stop here; I've already found several problems throughout a small chunk of this hack, and I've already found an instant removal reason, that being the floating muncher plant. There are mistakes that remain from past revomal logs as well. If you really want to get your hack submitted, please fix up your hack.
Removal: "Super Mario World 2: Bowser's Invasion"
Author: mtheglitch321
Description: "Storyline: After returning from their vacation, Mario and co. find that Bowser is up to no good again. Soon after, the princess disperses! Presuming that Bowser did it, Mario sets off to save the princess... again!

This is a one level teaser of my hack. I decided to upload this so people can see the first level and stuff."

Okay, first of all, Nintendo officially made a Super Mario World 2. It is actually a very popular and well-loved game! Ah, but you probably didn't know about this because everyone only calls it by the subtitle...

But I digress.

Title screen gets mangled by the file select screen. Not that a giant 2 made out of 2s ever looked good, anyway.

This island does not look right. It's flat... and I think there's some cutoff on one of the edges!

The pillars of ground really don't look that good... why aren't you using corner tiles? That would look much nicer. Also, if you want Cheep-Cheeps to swim in water, you have to turn on sprite buoyancy.

But doing that would lead to even more problems, as Beach Koopas are vanishing because of sprite memory errors! And you get less sprite memory when you turn on buoyancy, you see.

And the biggest problem of all... that was the entire thing. Just one level. If you want to submit a demo of a hack, it should have at least one whole world to play.

Read the Hack Submission Guidelines!

Hack Name: Kirby's Epic Trail's - 325.1 KB - 51 downloads.
Length: 20 levels
Author: NakedLeafProductions - Submitted by: NakedLeafProductions
Description: This if the FIXED hack with no rom this time

Kirby when over to check it out

Level 10-20
Difficulty rating: hard*

Sprites
Graphic...(later on in the game)

Hope you enjoys kirby epic trails
==========================================
My Short Review:
It's a pretty fun hack, level design is nice and so is some other stuff. However, you have quite a bit of errors to fix.
==========================================
Reasons:

Kirby dies in the title screen, that is not good. Kirby should never be able to die in the title screen.

The 1st line should be "One day as Kirby" The last sentence should be "Kirby went to take a look."

Wrong corner/edge tiles here, they should be water corner/edge tiles and not ledge corner tiles.

Cut-off here.

I can get inside this ledge here because the roof isn't blocked off.

Wrong tile on the left of the tower as it doesn't look right. Also, what's with that random door on the right? It's just randomly there near a cliff.

The tweeter has a bad palette.

*The thing (You forgot to capitalize "the" since that's the 1st word after a new sentence.) (Also, "the matter" doesn't make sense, it should be "The thing") (Take out "just") (and "fining" should be "finding") (Capitalize "Search") (The last sentence should be "Search in every level for them.")

Those berry's have a kinda bad palette.

Bad spiny palette.

You need to block off the roof because the player can jump up in the ledge and get stuck. Use invisible cement blocks or ? blocks to block it off.

Same as the above screenshot except I can't get stuck.

Bad corner tile because it creates cut-off at the end of that diagonal thingy.

It's hard to see because of the status bar but the player can get inside of this corner and get killed because of it. Fix that.

You forgot to add the corner here.

The hammer bro goes inside the ground here.

Wrong corner tiles, use Map16 to fix it.

The ! coin gets cut-off because it's on the sub boundary line. To see the sub boundary line press F2 in Lunar Magic and it should be the line in the middle that's horizontal.

Bad corner tile. Use Map16 to put the right tile.

The background is missing a tile.

Change the name of the level since using SMW names aren't allowed.

The pipe has a bad palette.

The ! coin is on the sub boundary line.

Bad pipe palette in the bonus game.

You also have some tiles or something past screen 0, take them out or this will happen.

If you jump right you can inside here, block it off.

The castle has a odd palette, you must've messed with the original SMW palettes and forgotten to Enable custom palettes.

In the last sentence, "what" should be capitalized, and "await" should be "awaits"

Move those blocks 1 tile higher so Kirby doesn't spaz out like that.

You should really take out some roto-discs out as it was really hard to get passed here without getting hurt.

*Something. (It needed to be capitalized)

You have the wrong sprite header since on of the boo's appear out of nowhere.

Kirby comes out of the pipe a bit too low as he comes out in mid-air.

"Some of his castle dick can be in here." What? Lol, I think you made a typo in here. Also, "But" should be capitalized. What's up with the message box anyway? It doesn't make much sense.

There's some weird tile above Kirby in his big form running frame, you probably forgot to delete some tile in GFX00.

If I spin jump up here and I have no P-Switch I am stuck and I am forced to die, that is never good.

Why do these platform act like coins? Is it supposed to some type of platform that gets destroyed? If so they're not too good as I can just fall easily if I collect them. Use a custom block for this.

Also, having random things act like coins with no notification on which ones "break" is not cool as I can just die without knowing.

Empty message box.

Bad initial settings here..

Bad corner tile, this must have happen because the corner edge tile is overlapping part of the ledge which makes this occur.

"Hight" should be "Height"

Cut-off at the top

Slightly empty message box and glitched squished graphics.

The switch doesn't get destroyed, make it so it does.

The corner pattern doesn't match with the ground.

The conrer color of the cloud doesn't fit with the hill.

Make this level tile Kirby is standing on yellow because there is no secret exit here.

The background palette is kinda bad.

The yellow switch block makes cut-off in the ground.

If I back here I am forced to take the hit because the thwomp won't move, move him.

The player can go in these type of ledges. Fix it so it has a corner at the end or apply the slope fix patch.

The pipe above is making cut-off to the ground.

Bad initial settings.

I can go inside here.

The ground is cut-off because of the pipe.

Bad pipe palette.

Why does this pipe lead back to the beginning of the level?

There's too many phanto's here, take some out.

When I enter the pipe at the end I don't come out of the pipe and the key gets stuck. Also, I couldn't find the keyhole at all.

The falling spike gets stuck on the ground for some reason.

*As. "was" should be "were" take out "olly" and replace it with "old" *unlocked. *path.

Picking up throw blocks this way is very annoying.

During this event, some random black tiles occur. Fix that.

*When. *master, (should be a comma and not a period) *Now.

The blue outline on the ground doesn't look good with the ground. Also, one of the frames for the fireball is gllitched.

I can get in here. These corners are bad.

What's up with the random ground tile there?

The top of the bullet bill cannon is cut-off.

These blocks are a bad excuse to use as lava tiles, they also look glitched.

Bad grammar and sentence structure, I'm sure this was done on purpose but don't do it.

Yoshi's head gets cut-off when he turns, it's because of sprite limitations. Yoshi will also lose his wings when he eats a shell but he will regain it when he doesn't have one.

The shell on the left will sink in the lava and create glitched graphics, fix that.

How come my Yoshi disappears when I kill zero?

"Kirby can go home to masterbait" No, don't even put words like that there, or at least if you're gonna at least warn the player in the description that there's bad language in the credits.

See, messing with Yoshi's house will screw up the ending.
==================================
Conclusion:
A lot of the errors I mentioned are easy to fix, fix those and this will most likely get accepted!

Reasons

First of all, that hack's waaay too short to be submitted. Unless it's a one-level-hack, demos should have about five levels or more before you submit them.
Also, all the other (unchanged) SMW levels can still be played. Do something to make them inaccessible.

This is what the only changed level looked like, by the way:

Cutoff tiles everywhere, plus some Bullet Bills that appear out of nowhere.

This screenshot shows no gameplay whatsoever. The whole point of screenshots is to display your hack so others can see what they can play before they download it.

Screenshots of the title screen are okay as long as you have other screenshots of gameplay. Several are recommended, but one is the very least you could take.

Have a nice day.

______________________________________________________________________

This hack was not too bad, and it was fine for a short demo. There could have been some changes to make your levels feel more unique (such as changing backgrounds and tilesets), but that wasn't too much of an issue.

All of those screenshots contain some form of cutoff, indicated by red circles and arrows. You should fix the corner tiles that cause cutoff by replacing them with the proper corners, and you could move the pipes to the edges of their screens rather than backing them up with cement blocks.

One huge issue with this pipe is that, not only does it take me to a the sublevel in level 105, but it launches me into this ledge in the main level, forcing me to kill myself. Please adjust all of this so that you have a unique sublevel that takes me back to the main level properly. (Also, I enter the pipe when I complete the level. As I mentioned previously, pushing the pipe to the edge of the screen should fix this.)

As WYE mentioned in his removal log, why not just disable entry to this level if it is not complete?

Generally, cursing nonchalantly in hacks such is this is looked down upon. Unless you have a good reason to do so, such as fitting the mood, please refrain from doing so.

Hack Name: " Maple Island 1 World DEMO "
Length: 8 exits
Author: Jungche - Submitted by: Jungche
Description: Maple Island, 1 World DEMO, TEST

Reasons

The ground is cut off below the hills. I suggest drawing some custom ground tiles where the transparency is replaced with the hills' color (or black). Same for all the other places where this happens.

Glitchy tiles (or bad palettes) at the bottom of the screen, right below Luigi.
Also, the shading on the letters looks kind of weird, since the shadow is brighter than the rest. Not really a removal reason, but it would be great if you could fix that.

Although the main character seems to be Luigi, there's still some things that suggest the main character is Mario, such as the file select menu and (not pictured) the "MARIO START!".

If you choose a 2-player game, you're able to play as a badly-colored version of Luigi that's called "Mario". To get rid of that, use the "1 player only" patch found in the Patches section.
(By the way, the player name in the status bar hasn't got the best palette either.)

Also, I'd like to point out that the first three levels look very similar to each other. The same graphics (for both FG and BG), the same sprite tilesets, the same enemies, the same music, the same general design... This isn't a removal reason, and it's pretty much up to you how you want your levels to look like, but I do think that more variety in GFX and music choice would make your hack more appealing.

I was able to somehow get throught his slope. Although it's not a game-breaking glitch, you should fix this (by not directly connecting a slope to a wall).

I can bring a springboard here, but it disappears when Lemmy shows up. You might want to cover the springboard with two cement blocks left and right, so the player can't take it with them.

The brick's bounce sprite doesn't match with the regular brick GFX.

Your levels tend to have pretty short time limits. It wouldn't hurt to give the player a few more seconds to beat them.

Cutoff in the corners. Either make the missing tiles yourself, or set up the ledges in a way that doesn't require using them.

Overall, this hack is pretty good so far, and there are relatively few mistakes considering there are eight levels. Just fix the issues I mentioned here and your hack should be accepted next time.
