SMA4 e-reader Levels Project

Link Thread Closed

Standard

Hi everybody.
I'm working on a long project for the C3.
A few years ago I heard of the "Lost Levels" of SMB3. But I had no idea what it was. I thought it was a secret world of SMB3.
Finally Then I could understand that "Lost Levels" were smb3 levels of which have never been to the final version of it. I found in the website of The Mushroom Kingdom a patch that allows Lost Levels be accessed via hack.

So I wanted to do a remake of all these levels to the SMW, but with graphics and gameplay of SMB3.

Here are some screenshots of my work:

Currently, the hack has almost no patch, since I started this project recently and bothered to make levels in the first place.
And also I got the in internet a RAW e-reader cards that is the famous card e-reader for SMA4, allowing more extra levels. I also plan to do a remake of these levels, but only for C3 of next year.

Also,I made a userbar if you want to collaborate with this project, providing ideas, suggestions, or even put in your profile my userbar, here's the link:

I hope you enjoy my project.

Well, here you can comment and give suggestions for this project.

Thanks for reading.

This looks absolutely brilliant. You're the first person who can actually provide screen shots for such a thing... It looks almost exactly like SMB3...

The only problem I can spot is that in the middle screen shot (the one with cape mario with the piranha plant) there appears to be cut-off at the bottom of the wood platform... Maybe you could add some sort of fill in tiles to correct this?

Anyway, this hack is looking good. Can't wait to see the final product... :D

The cut-off is from the lost levels and it is like that. :V

Edit: ZOMG 100th post for me! O.O
Edit2: I put the userbar in my sig.
Your layout has been renewed.

but would that be accepted here at SMWC?

Well no. Unless if they know that nintendo did the cut-off. X.X

It's probably best if he just puts fill-in tiles just to be on the safe side.

Awesome pictures! If it gets finished, i'll definitly play it.
Also, the cutoffs are probably one of the reasons why they didn't include the levels in the game in the first place.

Well, although I was trying to do everything possible so that it looks like the smb3 would be too bad if I let the levels unfinished, which will most SMB3 Lost Levels are.
Here is an example of cutoff that i've fixed in a level:

This level does not have background. It's incomplete on my part.
When I have more stuff done I'll show here. You still have many "Lost Levels" expecting me to be made.
Now that level is better!

Well, this hack looks nice, I always loved SMB3 styled hacks.

Just a suggestion for your remake hack, just don't copy everything, throw in some of your own ideas. If there is cutoff in these beta/unused levels I'd fix it, even if its not like that in SMB3.

And in the last screenshot the ground looks really odd too, why not stretch the normal FG to the bottom?

And you should add a BG, but you already said its incomplete.

Despite the few things I mentioned, it looks really neat. Can't wait to see this at C3, and to play the demo.
Of course I'll do that. But thanks for the warning. It is mandatory to do so because many levels are endless and sprites. That's why I'll do a remake of them, or else this hack will be boring and tiring, without a good goal.
I know it was not very good FG. But is that the level is incomplete. I have not found anything better to put here. But I'll fix it.
WHOA! This looks awesome! I'm looking forward to seeing an IPS. I will deffinately play it!

I may be wrong but is't SMB3 TLL World E+? Correct me if I am wrong.
I assume you're going to add goal points to the lost levels that don't have any, since you don't want this hack to be unbeatable.

This sounds like an interesting project. The Lost Levels of SMB3 always intrigued me, and as stated elsewhere I like playing remakes. Lookin' forward to this.

@The Oncoming Storm: No. The world of extra levels of SMA4 is World e+, because the name of hardware for GBA is Card e-reader:

@Midna: Yes,i will expand and add goal points to the levels that's unfinished.
Heh, I was wondering when you would make a thread about this hack. It looks brilliant! I too, am a fan of smb3 style hacks. You definitely seem to have incorporated this style into a hack nicely! I look forward to playing this when it's released.
I'm curious how you plan to remake the e-reader levels seeing as they incorporate many elements from SMW, SMB3, SMB2 and YI, plus a few unique things. Still, if you manage to pull it off with everything intact, I'll be very happy because I've always wanted to play the e-reader levels. I've only got 5 level cards for my physical copy of SMA4.
@Adam: In fact, I have 2 hacks in production. This hack has been frozen since April. But I tired to do other hack for lack of ideas and went back to do this. I was not sure if this project would show or not, but I went back to work on it and decided to launch a demo for the C3.

@Hearts Boxcars:I do know that the e-reader levels will not be easy. So I know that is not going to show them in C3, especially because I did not get to do them. I noticed that all the people who tried to make them quit, because the limits of the SMW were great. But I'll think about how to solve all problems because of the limits of the SMW.

Also,i have more stuff done:
The SMB3 layer 3 water is done. I've finished it yesterday on Terra Stripe:

I've disabled the layer 2 to show right the water.

This level isn't done.
I'm just showing the new layer 3 water.

What did you think of this?

EDIT: I've added the 64x64 Logo Expander patch to the hack:
Wow the logo lookas cool! Yay for layer 3 water...
Your layout has been renewed.
The logo looks great, and so does the water. Great job. ^_^
Fir3b|@$t124 go Weegee! & Adam: Thank you.

The foreground that is in the pack that Pac have made is not fully equal in original SMB3. Because of this, I even ripped the foreground and has added more new tiles in this level:
