Materials:
-Mencoder and Lame (located here)
(If that doesn't work, try this mencoder)
-ZSNES 1.51
-a movie editor (optional) (usually Windows Movie Maker will work for what you need)
-Put Mencoder, Lame, and ZSNES in the same folder before starting!-
So, you want to make a video of your hack and put it on youtube (or some other video host)? The first thing to note is ZSNES IS NOT THE ONLY METHOD OF RECORDING. There are programs like Hypercam and Camstudio, and Snes9x can record as well. This tutorial however, will only cover recording with ZSNES. Open your hack in ZSNES and go to the misc menu -> movie opt. you should get a screen like this.
All you need to worry about with your movies are the select movie and record from options along with the 4 buttons.
Select movie is used to determine what ZSNES movie spot to record to.
Record from is used to determine when recording will start when "Record" is hit. I recommend "Now".
Play: Plays the currently selected movie spot
Record: Clears the selected spot and prepares to record over.
Stop: Stops ZSNES from recording.
Append: Loads the currently selected movie and continues recording from the previous stop.
(you'll also notice it tells you the current status of ZSNES's recording at the bottom)
Once you've selected your movie and recording start, hit record and begin playing (it should say movie recording in the bottom left for the first few seconds). During recording, you can't load your normal savestates, but instead you can load RR savestates. When you save a state in recording and then load it back, ZSNES will erase everything recorded after that save and you can start anew. When you are satisfied with your recording, go back to the movie opt and click stop. Now you have your nice ZMV file. While useless on it's own, the ZMV file is what mencoder and lame use to record an avi from.
Back in movie opt, click the dumping tab, you should get something like this
Except for which movie to dump, I suggest using the settings shown above. Click start and sit back while the game replays the video. Once it is done, you will find in the folder with ZSNES an .avi file named "merged" that is what your video will come out as everytime, so remember to rename it if you want to keep it in that folder and record again.
Now you can edit your avi file in your movie editor and slap it onto youtube. Congrats.
If you have any questions, please post them in this thread.
