Azure Chaotic's big secret

So, I still don't have a demo, but I have the next best thing. My goal has always been to make something completely different from all existing Mario hacks. One thing in particular that I've always wanted to do was what everyone called impossible...

All hacks so far either have just one playable character, or if you choose two-player mode, they alternate. But where's the fun in that? You already know I somewhat circumvented this by introducing Lucian, but I wanted to go a little further.

So I looked around at a few other games to see how they did it. And a certain series caught my eye. The series that used to be competing with Mario...

I looked at how they did it, and then it hit me. That game also had two main characters, but the way it was handled was much different.

So I decided to copy them.

If you still don't know what I mean, then let me spell it out for you...

No, this is not a joke. There's an entirely new character that you can summon at any time just by pressing start on the second controller. Completely new physics and attacks, and though he may be hard to control at first, he can make your job much easier.

He can double-jump, shoot fire, and fit through small passages, as well as some other things that you'll have to figure out on your own. If you don't have a second controller (or someone to co-op with), it's not a problem - in certain stages, you can find a badge that will make him automatically follow you, and you can simply use select to switch between the two characters.

But enough with the text. You just want to see it in action, right? Well, here you go. I use "one-player mode" (switching with select) for the first half, then co-op for the second half.

Ignore the strange video glitch at the end.

I'm not going to release the two-player mode as a separate patch, because it would be almost useless - you'd still have to code your own character, and there's a lot of things that are only usable with my current setup. Sorry about that, but that doesn't make this any less fun, does it?

That is automatic win.

(eternal pessimist inside talking):Wait a minute, what does the patch do EXACTLY? Does it make a 2nd player with AI, a game where two people on the keyboard can play, or both? I'm not getting extremely excited until I find out.

(normal me) :Anyway, this looks great!

This is just amazing. I would of never expected that at all, it's just such an great idea. Excellent, excellent work Azure.
Someone finally went through the trouble of coding a second player, eh? Good job :) Must've been a lot of hours of hard work.
Wow... Just wow.

I can see you put a lot of work in it.

With that being said, I can't wait to play this hack.

Lots of unbelivable stuff at the moment. Rpg levels, 2player
co-op, and I cant wait to see what will come next.

You control him using controller 2, or by switching with the select button like I explained. In emulator terms, this means that you'd probably either have two people on the keyboard, or have one person using a gamepad. If you're controlling Cleru and the second player isn't "signed in," then he automatically just follows you.

Fluffy video games by me and Raibys!
Someone go combine the 2-player co-op with the RPG Style gameplay. XD

Very neat.
In fact, words can not discribe so I won't attempt it.
C3 is just wowing me now. But this is got to be one of the best.
Great job, Azure.

My jaw just dropped.
Pardon my language, but...

This is amazing, Azure! It must've been extremely difficult to code! I must say, the amount of work and effort you've been putting into this hack is absolutely incredible! The idea of having a second player follow you around is pure genius! It doesn't even look like a Mario game anymore! I'm looking forward to playing this hack. ^^ You deserve a medal for this. I already know one of the entries I'll be voting for this C3. :D
Hopefully this will get more people to join #netplay.

Okay, I picked my jaw back u- there it goes again.
This is amazing.
Just like WYE's RPG patch, this is another revolutionary step in SMW ASM hacking.
I myself once thought it was possible to make a Co-op Player 2, but I had no ASM knowledge when I came up with the idea.
This is brilliant, and I hope it is put to good use.
Keep it up, Azure.
