No staff of the month this time around. Expect one in January.
Anyway, this month's member is Kristian. Here is his interview:
SNN: How long have you been hacking for, and what do you consider to be your best creation within the ROM hacking realm?
Kristian: I've been hacking for just over a year now. I actually started fooling around with Lunar Magic before I joined SMWC, like a lot of people. My best creation thus far... I guess it would have to be a team hack named Super Mario Challenge. I'm not all that fond of it, but I really haven't released that much. My best creation in progress, is by far The Cloud Pala
SNN: About your main creation, The Cloud Palace, what do you feel is going to set it apart from other hacks? Or are you not going for that feeling?
Kristian: Well, it's always nice to have soime uniqueness in your hack, but for the most part, I'm focusing on making it fun to play. I actually tried doing this weird thing where the levels start out REALLY short and end up huge in the end game. I scrapped the idea because making the huge levels just got to tedious. I'm basically going for a generic, fun game, now.
SNN: Out of the hacks you've played, assuming you've played a fair amount, have any added some sort of inspiration to your projects? Or are most of the ideas straight from your own head?
Kristian: Lots of hacks have given me inspiration. I wouldn't say that I got ideas from them, but just playing them made me want to make something enjoyable too. For instance, playing Keytastrophe made me wan to add in a few puzzles here and there. My main inspiration, though, is probably The Cookie Crisis. I don't think I've had as much fun playing a hack as I did with that one. The level design there is just great.
SNN: Aside from ROM hacking, do you have any other main hobbies either on the Internet or in real life?
Kristian: On the internet, I make Let's Plays. I don't know if that counts, since I always play rom hacks. Mostly everything I do on the computer revolves around rom hacking. In real life, my main hobby would definitely be sports. Mainly tennis in the summer and hockey in the winter. I actually have two games in hockey this weekend. I also follow various professional sports such as the NHL. (National Hockey League) My favorite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs. My life is pretty much rom hacking and sports, to be honest.
SNN: Assuming you finish all of your current projects, what is next for you in the world of ROM hacking? Will you stick with SMW, move on to a different game, or quit ROM hacking altogether?
Kristian: I plan to stick with rom hacking, definitely. It's a long way away, though, so it's hard to say what my feeling toward rom hacking might be like in a few years. Assuming that I stick with rom hacking after The Cloud Palace, I'm going to try to make a vanilla level design hack, but redraw the graphics. Even if I don't feel the need to start a whole new project I'm sure I'll stick around SMWC/Kuribo's Shoe, and help out in team hacks and stuff. I like you guys too much to leave!
za-za-zing!
