Some pretty amazing news to deliver to you now, as it has been confirmed that none other than Michael Jackson, the legend himself - composed the music soundtrack to Sonic 3, putting years of speculation on the internet to rest.

As reported from VG247, Brad Buxer, the composer who was actually credited for the music in Sonic 3, confirmed that he and Michael Jackson worked together on the soundtrack for the game.

It turns out that MJ’s name wasn’t credited for the music, due to the fact that Jackson wasn’t satisfied with the end product and ‘didn’t want to be associated with a product that devalued his music‘. Another theory is that Sega quickly ended partnership with Jackson, as the soundtrack was completed round about the same time that the child abuse scandals surfaced, so thats another thing to consider.

If you ask me, the soundtrack for Sonic 3 is a great piece of work, so I definitely have even more respect for MJ after this. The video below explains all of this much better than I have. Make sure you watch it and then leave us a comment with your thoughts. Note the obvious similarities with ‘Jam’ and ‘Stranger in Moscow’.

Michael Jackson's keyboardist, Brad Buxer, confirmed with French-language magazine, "Black & White," that he and the King of Pop contributed to the soundtrack of "Sonic the Hedgehog 3." His involvement has long been rumored but never before confirmed by an inside party. Here's the quote from Buxer, discussing it, translation courtesy of VGMDB:

"I've never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that's what I did. And if he is not credited for composing the music, it's because he was not happy with the sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music."

I reached out to Sega for comment, but they haven't gotten back to me just yet. If they do, you'll be the first to know. You can check out the full story at MTVNews.com.

goodness... I've heard these rumors before, but only now is it confirmed, and only now does it mean something to me... wow... he is simply amazing... Too bad he didn't like it. He seems to have expected too much of the Genesis... insulting, as though he felt he was too good for Genesis quality? I don't know...

Eh, I already knew about this, ever since the part of 1:04 of the Jam and the Carnival night video. It is EXACTLY THE SAME. However, it is great they finally admitted it.
I actually think he was more so frustrated because he was not good at working with the Genesis' limitations.
It seems like it was something more personal to him. He wanted to shoot higher.

I knew the first time that I played the game. the music for Carnival Night was just a giveaway.
Wow. I guess the rumors are over.
Sonic Retro are posting this too.
That's very cool!
I never actually knew that the Sonic 3 Music was from the Michael Jackson songs, this is very interesting.

Then again, I never really payed that much attention.

Edit: Level up!Free counters!
These songs always had something from Michael Jackson.
Now that it is confirmed, it all makes sense.

The Genesis, SNES, NES, ect were all great consoles, but let's be honest here: the sound quality sucked. Technical limitations like this might seem tolerable to gamers like us, but to a musician, low sound quality can be a huge hurdle. I honestly don't blame him in the least bit.
wonder why Carnival Night's music sounded familliar!

Ya know, I love being a girl.

Sonic 1 Beta Remake patch coming soon™
Man, I found out way before you guys did. Sonic retro had it up hours before it came here. Anyways, I'm a fan of MJ, and I always liked sonic music, so this is just awesome. Sonic 3 miniboss theme ftw!
I heard these rumors a while back.
Now that it's confirmed, I find it quite amazing; I've always loved the music of Sonic 3.

And of course, the music of MJ.

I am fucking serious, on the day Michael Jackson died (possibly at the same time), I was playing Sonic 3 on Sonic Mega Collection. I remember going out to dinner with friends and then coming home to see the tragic news report.

I am not lying. O_O
I had heard this before, but didn't think it was true. Guess I was wrong! :P

BTW Here's the first Sonic 3 vs. Michael Jackson vid I saw (Ice Cap vs. Who is It)
