This is utterly epic. O_O

The world's tallest building has been opened in a dramatic fireworks ceremony in the Gulf emirate of Dubai.

The Burj Khalifa was revealed to be 828m (2,716ft) high, far taller than the previous record holder, Taipei 101.

Known as the Burj Dubai during construction, the tower has been renamed after the leader of Dubai's oil-rich neighbour, Abu Dhabi.

Last month, Abu Dhabi gave Dubai a handout of $10bn (£6.13bn) to help it pay off its debts.

Construction of the Burj Dubai began in 2004, at the height of an economic boom.

Clad in 28,000 glass panels, the tower has 160 floors and more than 500,000 sq m of space for offices and flats.

This great project deserves to carry the name of a great man
Sheikh Mohammed

The tower also lays claim to the highest occupied floor, the tallest service lift, and the world's highest observation deck - on the 124th floor.

The world's highest mosque and swimming pool will meanwhile be located on the 158th and 76th floors.

I'm just fucking impressed. O_______O
The funny thing is, I went to Dubai on the 28th-30th December, so I got to see all this whilst it was being made - It was awesome...

First thought in my mind... Good God...
But of course, someday a new crazy architect will come and make an even bigger building, then another architect, and another, ect.
Records are there to be broken.

Something like rules.

But still, it's a very impressive feat to be able to go that high and still be in something attached to the floor.
Holy fuck! That is simply astonishing... I sure as hell wouldn't like to be in the higher floors... Oh my

Maybe two years ago I went to the Sears Tower and when i looked down, I nearly puked. The strange thing is that I'm not naturally afraid of heights. If I were to go into that tower, it would be the end of me I would be very hestitant to go to the top. 800m? Wow!
It's so funny because the tower reaches much higher than the other buildings. I wonder how tall the next building will be. Maybe 1200m?

That is one feat of engineering. Really amazing that the built it so high. Though it's not surprising that the building to overtake Taipei 101's position as tallest building in the world was built in Dubai. That place has been growing like crazy recently.

Still, one heckuva building. I'd sure like to go up it.

God Damn, that's huge! I wonder what the view would be like on the top floor :P
"Holy shit" is all I can say right now.

My blog. I could post stuff now and then
Let's hope the building doesn't trip over.
Holy shit is right. Is there even any oxygen up there? O.O
I've been to the top of the empire state building and that was already wtfepic... I'd love to go see the Burj now.

<-- this is the dope on dope
Sears Tower isn't the tallest anymore... =/

But that is a kickass feat! Imagine if an architect somewhere out in a desert decided to use a city's worth of space just to make a tower higher than the Burj Dubai. That'd be pretty sweet.

Awesome! Imagine going to the top floor! You'd be able to see for miles!

Here's a picture of the view from the top, looking down

The scary thing is, it's so high you can see the actual shape of Planet Earth O_o
I hate to be pessimistic, but for some reason I have the worry this will be terrorist's next target. Which is a damn shame considering how impressive this is.
Also, this better be lightning resistant.

That's a very impressive building, but I have to wonder: What kind of people work at the top and do they like being several miles above the ground? Not for the weak of heart! The building is intimidating to look at from ground level.

Eguallam na ounie-- ikei kabiya.
Abhorring repetition without spellcheck and without variance since 1957.

(looks at first picture) holy shit.
Wow, thats pretty damn tall

Yeah, so what if I haven't shoveled out my signature yet, I'll get to it later.
I'm nearly speechless about what to say about this tower! 8>

Jeorge535: That picture is awesomely scary! I have to see it for myself one day!

i don't want to live at the top, because the top of that will waver a bit because of the wind. and thats damn scary!

I might put some sort of signature here once. I guess.
Holy Shit, the top floor view is scary O_O

Thats pretty damn tall, almost 2 times the height of Taipei 101
I'm sorry, but...

That's just insane. I'm extremely impressed, it makes all the skyscrapers around it look like little bugs...

And that top floor view is scary, i think i'd crap myself if i was at the top of that thing, especially since you can actually see earth's curvature...
