(Discussion) 3rd Annual SMWCentral Level Design Challenge

If you want to play them, go right ahead raocow, just know that they won't be like the ones from the choco contest since those had all the fancy asm and stuff. This contest relies solely on the creativity of the user when dealing with original SMW resources. That sounds limiting but in the past there have been some really amazing levels.
Finally, i've been waiting for this.
Just a question.
You can make minor graphical edits to, example, avoid cutoff and that stuff?
i just lurk sometimes
I think we allowed that and things like squaring cement blocks in the past, but don't go overboard with your corrections.

Yes, raocow...yes...

If you do it, I can't wait for the swarm of youtube messages saying:

OMG OMG RAOCOW LPED UR LEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

This WONT happen. People watch raocow for his commentary. They don't CARE who made the level. You wont get famous, or whatever you think.
You might get 2 to 4 messages, but you wont get hundreds.
So, the list of allowable hex edits wouldn't include remapping sprite graphics (like, say I wanted to move the note block bounce sprite to graphics page 1 or the rotating platform chain to SP3)? And what about my question about side exits?

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
I caved in, I can't resist.
I'm making a level for this contest.
It's not going to be good, as I'm used to incorporating custom blocks and exgfx into vanilla-ish levels.
Sure, why not, I'll join.
Same here. I think I stand a very good chance. :)

Awright, I got me a level.
Chalkroad Quarry is the name, monochromish palettes is the game :D
Are we allowed to use terra stirpe?
Sorry I couldn't enter C3 this time, I've just had some much other stuff to do, And I'm also re going over the basics of level design again.
I may join, If I find enough time. It sounds like a lot of fun.
I'm DEFININITELY joining this! Almost done my submission! :D
I've learned the collective intelligence of the human race amounts to roughly that of a bar of soap.
In other news, why am I here.
I remember there being a hex edit to disable the Yoshi Coin flash. Are we allowed to use that?

Just use a workaround. If you cannot, I'll make note of it as a limitation of the original game.
Another question:
Is fake HDMA allowed (using only Zildjian's method of using tiles FA-FF)?

i just lurk sometimes
Yes, fake HDMA is allowed, as it classifies as vanilla, if I recall correctly.

Here are some tips from last year's contest to help get you started or perhaps give you an idea or two for your level:

-Fake HDMA: HDMA isn't allowed but who says you can't make fake HDMA? As long as it uses SMW graphics (i.e., the squares of color located in gfx17), go for it!

I'm in, this should be fun!

Also will it be like the chocolate contest where you put all the levels in one folder?

Another alteration from last year is that we are disallowing multiple exits (this means 3 or more).... If you use a Switch Palace as one of your exits, it counts towards the total of two exits.

I've been planning on doing something along the lines of this, and it's almost done, but I can't have more than two exits. Crap. I'll have to find a way around that.

Also, I'd like it if all the submissions were LP'd, but I'm not hell-bent on it being done by Raocow.

I'm still not sure whether his comment about my submission to the last contest was sarcastic or not.

I thought the body of the level was fine, but the end makes no sense and feels rushed.

That's the tl;dr version of my 'review' if you want to call it that.
Wait, is raocow playing the levels or not? Because my level is very non-linear, and raocow usually doesn't like those...
