Super Mario World Hacks 101 was a project I was thrilled to do, no matter how silly the original spark was. The project, though, sparked ambition for more.

This project, Super Mario World Hacks 201 (link to forum,) is going to be one I, alone cannot do. I intend to have this be a team project in which people can sign up to help. It may be a while before I get it in gear, though, since I won't get to learn much new stuff until summer.

Early alpha stages, currently.

I want to make 201 an educational hack about how to use more advanced things (not necessarily TOO MUCH more advanced, but it can get up to as advanced as the project goes) such as samples for songs, fancy ASM, ExGFX, and other gimmicks.

I am pretty sure I can help do a level or two, I can write lessons for messageboxes/signs/NPCs, and I can do ExGFX and palettes.

This project is scheduled to gear up in June, but until then, I plan on doing some framework, and some team building, which I'll figure out how to set up somehow.

1) In team hacks, you should select your team early.
2) Only doing a level or two is not enough for a team leader.

And why do you need a team for a tutorial hack?

Oh, not just a level or two, I'd probably do quite a few levels, palettes, graphics, and other bits and pieces, and I'd probably orchestrate putting the bits together.

And as for why, I think that a single person's recommendations are limited, whereas a group would know a lot more dos and don'ts than I, alone, would.Super Mario World Hacks 101

Hacks 101 was mostly about the basics, things that any experienced hacker should know. 201 is most likely going to be focused on ASM and things like Terra Stripe for example.

Also, I think tails misinterpreted what I meant when I said to make this thread.

Okay, basically we're asking people what they want to see in Hacks 201. Since this is a hack based on showing the community what can be done in SMW, we want to know what our community wants to see. 201 will be more focused on what are often seen in more famed hacks. HDMA, Custom Sprites, Terra Stripe, and LevelASM will all make an appearance hopefully.

And a list of things I've thought for 201:

Usually, I get too caught up in my own stuff to help with team hacks, but I'll do my best to help out with this project.

That can be done vanilla style. REALLY EASILY. Just take a question/turn block on the map16 and change it to behave like tile 16B.

Not bad. I don't really like the Ghost Ship palette, though.
They're nice, especially the last one, but I might recommend you lower the saturation on them to some extent, bright palettes can overwhelm.Super Mario World Hacks 101
Well, those aren't exactly the brightest colors in the world, so there's not really much of a way to desaturate them exactly... and in the ghost ship palette especially I tried to avoid bright colors (though, in retrospect, the logs do clash a lot).

Edit: Spray Fish. Is it me, or does he look kind of... indecent?
