Mario's shoes

Basically, I am trying to change the color of Mario's shoes, but they aren't changing. I keep changing the first brown color in mario's palette, which is the color YY-CHR says it uses, but it just leaves his shoes brown. I can't figure what is going on here, mostly because I really don't know too much about palette editing.
Did you edit the color of all of his poses that show his feet?
Not with YY-CHR, with the palette editor, I just changed the color they supposedly grab from the palette.
Actually, are you using a custom palette? Go to a level that doesn't have a custom palette active and edit palette 8, then click 'Save RGB's to ROM'

This is because editing Mario's palette in a level that has custom palettes installed, will not work correctly.

Give Mario some love?~
Actually I'm past that already. I've changed almost every color other than his shoes and it works fine, but his shoes just stay brown.
I once heard that some of the colors for mario (mainly the red and blue) were hardcoded, and coulden't be changed. It is either this, or you are doing something wrong. Do you need to change the color, or could they just be blue or golden, or somethin?
F.Y.E.
The red and blue colors actually work fine. I want to give mario
A) A black outline for his gloves
B) Black shoes
I guess brown shoes work just fine, but it would have been really spiffy if I could have made them black. Oh well. Maybe I'll use YY-CHR but probably not.
