On the palettes showoff thread I've seen people make fake gradients using custom Map16 tiles. I made some, too and changed their palettes, but it also changed part of the foreground's palette. How do I make it so they use the background palette?

how? How exactly do I make them use another palette? And how would I edit that palette if the level uses another?

Using Edit 16x16 Attributes.


Step by step:

After getting the graphics for the block together, click the "Edit 16x16 Attributes" button in the 16x16 Tilemap Editor. There should be a dropdown for the palette. Change that to either 0 or 1, then repaste the tile in Map16. Finally press F9.

In the palette editor, do I temporarily switch the palette to be edited for the custom tile? Also, what do I do if I'm using a custom palette?

Making the tile use palette 0 or 1 will automatically switch the palette. It matches the BG, so the Palette Editor isn't necessary.
What exactly do you mean? Don't you have to change the colors for the tiles? and how exactly does it match the background?

It changes it's palette row. It takes the colors from the same place that the BG does.
