So I thought this'd be a fun idea for SMWC and I suggested it on IRC a couple times and lots of people thought it'd be a fun thing to do, so here we go.
HOW ARE WE DOING IT?
Alright, so we'll be doing this on chess.com
. You'll need to register there to enter. Then, you have to add the person you're competing with to your friends list to play against them. You can do this by going to http://www.chess.com/members/view/USERNAME_GOES_HERE and finding the "add to my friends list" button on the right.
You can then plan a time to play with your opponent, and go to Live chess
to play against them.
One of you should then go to the "Friends" tab, in the box on the right, and click the challenge button by your opponent's name.
The other should go to their "Challenges" tab and then wait for their opponent's name to show up at the top. You may have to switch tabs and go back to the "Challenges" tab for it to appear.
The rules you should set are as follows:
Initial time: 120
Bonus time: 10
I play: Random
You can either choose to play just one game, or best two out of three.
Then the winner should PM me and tell me that they won. You must have a screenshot of yourself winning.
HOW CAN I SIGN UP?
Post in this thread saying you want to play. Signups will go until Saturday, April 3 at 11:59 PM GMT-6, OR until 32 people sign up.
WHAT DO I WIN?
First, second, and third place will all receive trophies so that they can show off their amazingness.
I AM TOO LAZY TO READ THROUGH THE THREAD, WHO'S ALREADY ENTERED?
WHERE'S THE BRACKET?
HOW LONG IS EACH ROUND?
- Red Chameleon
- Amos DeFamos
- Captain Pissweak
- Mr. Weegee
- MetaKnight 3
Contestants have a total of seven days per round to PM me with their screenshot and tell me who won. If I do not receive any notification of who won, then both contestants will be disqualified.
I HAVE SOME OTHER QUESTION.
Ask it here.
Also, sorry the preparation stuff at chess.com is a little complicated. I know from personal experience that it's the best possible site for tournaments like this, so just bear with it.
Fakeedit: this is my first time organizing a contest, and I'm new to this sort of thing, so if I've forgotten to mention anything just tell me.
Realedit: It's come to my attention that some IE users have issues with chess.com. Just use Chrome or something while you compete if you're in the tournament.
