2nd Annual Kaizo Level Design Contest - Completed

I personally once found shell jumps hard, but now I find them easy.

100th post in thread yeeeahhh

FakeEdit: DAMN YOU SADISTIC DESIGNER
Error 52, shelljumps are relatively easy. But compare double shelljumps against, well, something fun, and it becomes quite obvious why they shouldn't be in Kaizo Hacks.

Also: Shells are the new flunchers! They are spammed in Kaizo Hacks and people think the more shelljumps you use, the better...! (I hate them, if only for this)
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

Key jumps: Depending on when you land on it, 1-5 frames to jump, 0-5 frames to grab at the same time.
Shell jumps: Lots and lots of frames to jump.

...In other words, if you had to choose between the above three, go with shell jumping.

yeah but the p-switch jump (bare in mind this is not mid-air), is relativly straight forward... and easier than the key jump due to the fact that you can clearly see when mario is on that "1 frame"

and also the timing is pretty easy just jump a few miliseconds before hitting it its a 25% chance you'll do it and 15% in mid air... so in the entry it isnt alll as bad as some people can make it *cough*edits entry*cough*

EDIT: also the fact that p-switch jumping can can be used as tyo complete puzzles *cough* my entry *cough*

may i abuse this glitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbNrucGOTTo
it probably is yet unknown, so #w{:s}

I might put some sort of signature here once. I guess.
people are just loving my questions i can tell:

are we aloud put a .txt file in the zip with the ips?

i wanted to have a trap walkthrough with glitch explanations :)

I don't really find p-switch rewarding when you get it. It just sort of feels like "ok, I got lucky that time and hit the jump button on the right frame". They are fun to watch in a TAS. Lots of stuff is fun to watch in a TAS. TASes of Item abuse and pit of death are very fun to watch. I'm not in support of double shell jumps being part of a hack. I probably wouldn't even put single shell jumps in a Kaizo level I was making because 1 they are overused and 2 I think the degree of accuracy required for them is too high to for them to be master-able.
I disagree with your second reason Paradox, but meh.

@OGS93: Well, Ultimaximus has clearly stated that hard traps/glitches should be explained in a message box, but I'm wondering about this as well. But I don't think it'd be allowed, as:

Aka if you make something so hard that it needs an explanation you've messed up. (and with these words I start worrying about my level...)

Just a *sweat* t-t-totally unrelated *gulp* random purely hypothetical question: if the judges cannot beat the level, are you to submit a walkthrough and will all points for the 'difficulty' fly out of the window?
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

the explanation is there so i dont have to use a freaken sprite with my cluster (insert naughty word here) of a level... all space that i could put it in will make a trap obselete or make the text box unrechable

also i have used text boxes for sprites to pass through so if it does explain a glitch no doubt you will read it in the wrong place...

also the walkthrough in the .txt thing, i meant so it may save the judges a whole lot of time on a level with 5 sub levels ya know?

By master-able I mean being able to get good enough to do it almost every time. Not once every 3 times or anything.

There is always space

Add to the message where the glitch is located, so it doesn't matter where it is read.

Yeeeeeaahno. The judges will try to complete the level themselves, if they need so much as look at the title of the walkthrough something is wrong. Allowing them to skip all puzzles and alternate paths is not playing a level, then they could just as well watch a TAS, or take a peek in LM and not play it at all.
Sending a walkthrough defeats the purpose of playing a fun level, which is what this contest is about (read a previous post by me for more insight in this). Besides: all those sub-levels, split paths, nutcracking puzzles and agonizingly obvious deathtraps (all of which are skipped in a walkthrough) are a genuine part of the level, which is to be evaluated.

@Paradox: My sucess rate of a singly shelljump is right around 70-75%, I'll agree that is far from 'almost every time' but it's drawing closer and closer with practice (read: annoying hacks)

Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Well, thats just great... I've got so many sprites in my level that I can't put a message box anywhere! |-O

Yeah, I have similar success rate for shell jumps. I was just trying it and I did like 10 in a row. Maybe they are master-able. But one thing I have noticed is that if I haven't done a shell jump for a while and I try to do one I very frequently fail on the first try. But then on the second and third I get the skill back. It's like I temporarily forget how to do them.

That's not actually a bad idea. Maybe a optional pipe or something at the beggining of the level if there's more than one?
I'm doing a Kaizo style level for entry too! It's called Kaizo Caverns! #w{:>}
