xkas is easy. Just download it and put the ROM and the patch in the same directory as it. Then, copy cmd.exe from your System32 folder (found inside the Windows folder on the C drive), and put that in the xkas folder as well. Make a backup of your ROM before this next step, just in case. Open up cmd and type "xkas patchname.asm romname.smc" without the quotation marks and with the obvious substitutions, and the patch will be applied.
your supposed to type the location to where xkas is first.
EXAMPLE:

CD Desktop\Super Mario World Hacking\Tools\xkas
then you would type in "xkas (Put Patch Name Here).asm (Put Hack Name Here).smc" (if it's the other way around, "xkas (Hack Name).smc (Patch Name).asm" then sorry.)
If you really really don't get it, I strongly recommend using Xkas GUI. It's a really simple point-and-click patcher that doesn't require CMD or any of that stuff.
