Tip: If you make a change to your ROM that you regret, just go to File > Restore > Restore ROM to Previous State in the menu. From there, you can select a restore point and revert your ROM to a previous state.
Congratulations to Lynnes, Aqualakitu and everyone else who ended up quite high.
Someday I should participate in this. It's not fun when you're designing a level and all of a sudden, your mouse is broke. <_>
-------------------- --------> Don't follow "Find Roy's Dignity", my hack. Because it's pretty outdated. <--------
Is there some kind of inside joke with this guy? I really don't see how it is ranked so highly and, uh, aren't there non-vanilla graphics in it?
There is no inside joke. His graphics were vanilla - they were just very cleverly manipulated.
Different judges, different opinions. It was the kind of difficult which was fun. It took me quite a few tries, but I did manage to do it without save states. I didn't really get the whole "unfairness" vibes from it.

It has no power ups and no midpoint. Now, this wouldn't be TOO bad if it wasn't for the fact that there are many, many ridiculously precise pixel-perfect jumps. It almost sounds as if we're talking about two completely different levels?
I can't believe I'm actually about to do this, but whatever.
-Going through the first area (grey mountain portion), it is all vanilla. The leaves on the ground come from an original GFX set (forest background).
-Going through the second portion (this is the area I'm going to assume you're talking about). The tiles used to make up the "light" effect is simply blank white squares on layer 2. The ground in the background is made up of the "orange platform that goes on forever".
-There is absolutely nothing which couldn't be vanilla in the third area.
-The final area uses more of the "orange platform" tiles, as well as the "castle complete" cutscene flowers for the ground.
Really, unless I'm missing something horribly obvious here, I really have no idea what you're talking about and I'd love it if you would clarify.
I'm surprised to get the score that i got (36.67), its can be considered good or bad in peoples opinions. But never the less, I'm glad about my entry, and glad to get that score. i found it funny about the comments, because the few things i regreted got mixed reviews. I found it hysterical when i was questioned on the storyline, I didn't quite planned it out, and i faded away from the storyline the further i got into making the level. Other then that, this was my very first contest and first thing uploaded on the website, and i found the comments very useful to keep in mind when making eventual levels/rom-hacks.
Anyways, Congratulations to everyone who entered the contest. It was very competitive and i hope to enter the next one as well.
edit: firepheinix, there is a mistake with my scores- SNN gave me a 44, not a 40. Supertails gave me a 39, not a 36.
I have those scores you say SNN and ST gave you as the scores in the excel spreadsheet so even if I was wrong somewhere, the score you have in the results is the correct score.
As for me giving you a 27, I don't like hard levels. I don't have fun with them. Therefore, these feelings got reflected in your judgment. Look at the other hard levels in the contest, like neosaver and 10204307. You'll see I rated consistently lower on harder levels. Sorry, it's just the way I felt. That's why we have more than one judge to average scores out.
And for you peeps that have been waiting after my videos, I'll probably be starting only once ASMT is over. All you other people who wanted to do the whole 'play the whole thing' thing, think of it as a head start I suppose!
Remind me again why I did enter this. I'm really not that great at making vanilla levels. In all fairness, I'm not the best at making chocolate levels either, but at least there, I can utilize some of my other "skills", such as ASM and music. Ah, well...at least I basically had fun designing the level, although it was significantly more stressful than I would have liked. Congratulations to the winners! Lynnes's level was one of the ones I played, and I'm not surprised there.

Are you joking? o_ô
