Sprite Tutorial (please look)

Standard

If you suck at linear, maybe you could put the message boxes at every route?
video

Just showing off some my shy guy, tweeter and birdo. Yes, my sprites, coded completely from scratch. I've already made the blue and green guys a little slower.

This is apart of a secret level.

Also, I'm thinking of putting keys in all levels, and having a counter that counts up for every level you got all the keys in. Just something to add a little more replay value.

Those look really cool Ixtab. Can't wait to see them in pure action on your hack.

Yes, but we're not talking about ASMT, are we.
this is a genius idea, this may inspire me to make a music version, just gotta work a little more on meh music skills, anyway, you should also teach how to implement hdma as that can be used in levelasm and maybe overworldasm if it hasnt already been suggested
Well guys, I'm back to the actual tutorial part. However, I've got a little dilemma== the code. I'd like to be able to display all the code for blocks, patches and most especially sprites. But as most of you know, a sprite usually has a minimum of about 100 lines. What should I do? I've even considered including a bunch of files, having them password protected, and when you get to the part in-game, when I would like to show you something, I'll tell you the file name and password. I feel this will, for a lack of a better word, hinder the playing experience. Any opinions are appriciated.

Maybe use Romi's VWF cutscene tool.
And Instruct it in little parts and then make a level in witch the sprite you just made is in?
I've decided just to include the files, unpassworded.

Anyway, I would really like to code my own co-op sprite, but I'm starting to get off the task of teaching asm and getting carried away with just jamming all the asm I can into this hack. I'm starting to wonder how I should make this hack. I mean, would anyone mind if there are 2 paths, one for random levels, and one for teaching asm? I'm sorta stuck. I really need a btsd .44 to progress with the tutorial part of the hack. I guess that's why I'm finding myself bored, making sprites and patches that don't really need to be in there.

What do you guys think: Stick to a strict tutorial hack or have a lot of asm and include the tutorial as the main part?

Also, co-op, yes or no?

Check out my Youtube channel! 獣耳 Brony for life.
If it was like NSMB Wii it would be AWESOME!
The reality of a hack like NSMB Wii is unfathomable. I say no to the co-op sprite, seeing as how it will only delay the release of this game. After all, how many of us actually play hacks with other people?
Gonna continue this for fun...

SHUT UP!

Yes to what I said.

I don't like the co-op idea. I mean, what's the point?
Why not go to my Youtube channel?

Maybe people would start playing with others more if there was more use of the co-op sprite. Anyway, here's mine.

All that's coded is the standing still animation, and moving to the left and right. I've finally figured out dynamic sprites, for real this time. So i'ma go make some zingers and come back to this.

EDIT: More progress on the co-op sprite

by "playing with others" does that mean its on net play? i doubt it, but just wondering.
and is that for the two player only option? i wouldnt like to be required to use player 2 like hell i wouldnt.
if mario dies, do you keep playing as the other guy, and vice versa?
ask me if i give a f*ck...
I would say:
"have a lot of asm and include the tutorial as the main part"
but no to co-op.
I mean, after all it's to teach people asm (or what to do with it), and making it for 2 players then would be kind of.. unfitting.
Well, if it's only a possibility (aka you can choose 1 or 2 player), then I would say go for it.
