DSU Mario World: Being Renamed soon, mega update with lots of stuff!

Standard

Where did you get this DKC2 Song port?

And, I don't know if the red color of the status bar is intentional, if it is, no problem.

I like this OW design, but they have few animated water.

Status bar is kind of intentional, but I was originally using a DK Country 2 styled one via a custom sprite, but it got removed to test if it caused fade fix problems in the other level with the palette.

And what DKC2 port? Boss Bossonova and Haunted Hall are at Iceman's site, the castle theme is at a Japanese site I can PM the link to and others are here at SMW Central.

I removed much of the animated water because some said it was illogical.

And OGS93, I got your PM. Thanks.

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.

Okay, I know many people don't exactly have much interest in this hack any more, but I might as well say a few updates and what's coming soon:

1. I'll be porting the levels to a new ROM to change to Romi's Add Music. This way, there'll be new miscellaneous music, as well as level music using the NSPC patch. Stickerbrush Symphony, the Haunted Hall music, the Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story final boss music, the various other music I can remember and probably the Bowser from Yoshi's Island music I plan to add, obviously. Anyone who's got some free time and wants to try this for me is welcome, although I'll try and move the stuff myself if no one finds it possible or offers.

2. The level by OGS93 will be added. It's quite good, and it uses the space by the ship near the Kitchen Island section on the overworld. Layer 2 level as well.

3. The level by LinksDarkArrows doesn't seem to have been started yet.

4. I'm trying to round the rest of the level submissions. It's easier said than done with a lot of people apparently having school work or the like, and with all kinds of filters and stuff on sites like Youtube, this could take a while.

5. I'm increasing difficulty and fixing level design for existing levels. Syrup Castle level for example has about 25% more content now. Of course, if people complain it's too easy or too short now, I'll literally add every single room and section from chapter 5 in Wario Land II. Be warned, knowing my obsession with the series, I'm not joking about that.

6. I need some ideas for two levels, one in world 3 and one in world 5. If you have any cool ideas for levels in a Mario hack, and want them included, post them now. Any sprites, music and graphics you want added will be added, with the exception of dynamic sprites at this time.

But yeah, updates are under way, and when it's done this thing will be awesome. Seriously.

Alright, new screens and videos and stuff:

One of the early Big Boo boss fights.

Underwater part of a level. In the dark. Yay, has Buoy Base music...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M39H-9guirM&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M39H-9guirM&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Pix boss in Sherbet Land level. Yes, thanks to an ASM knowing member, we now have FOUR coloured pix sprites on screen at once, not three. Along with some homing missiles and the standard shell generator.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HSGqyfhrAqY&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HSGqyfhrAqY&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

A blue switch section. Not a seperate level, part of a long castle, and it's a sort of secret exit.

Note: Ignore the cement block area at the start. It's a test room for this and the Pix boss so I didn't have to beat the rest of the levels before hand. The Plant Fortress main level is too damn long to repeat every time.

Oh, and a few things to consider. One planned idea may involve a secret exit in the bonus game level leading to a secret level, although details on the level are scarce. There's also a neon type level, and one with Pokemon graphics and such like.

Pyramid level part 1. Ignore cut off, it will use these graphics in the final version:

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=showexgfx&id=669

Part of a very hard level. Lights go on and off every few seconds, and you can pretty much see hardly anything due to the insanely dark palette and the fact 'bright' here is actually darker than the dark room spot light darkness.

A dark house with weird lights, exploding mushrooms, exploding ghosts, weird ghosts, inverted colours, fake game crashes and... the Angry Sun. Indoors? Who cares, water makes rollercoaster loops in the Mario verse, who'd care about an indoor star?

An easy part of a level with Death swoopers and Boss Bass.

Most of the above will use custom foreground and background graphics soon, and maybe new music.

i like the yellow pix room

but the pictures arent working :/ you may want to fiv it :/

I'm really looking forward to the final version, If you want, I could beta test it.

One question: Are the bosses going to be set at a kaizo difficulty?
You have a nice set of custom sprites. Might want to fix Boss Bass palette though.
In the Pix boss room, the bullet shooter at the top seems somewhat weird. And this might just be me, but the Boss Bass palette is a bit odd.

Other than that, it is looking good. #w{=)}

Edit: I guess it is not just me.

No idea what the heck is going on with the pictures, I thought it would be a permission thing with the gallery since you're also a DSU member, but the permissions seem to be set to allow everyone to view images.

I'll fix the palette. Can anyone tell me what the default colours are for the sprite so I can edit it though?

Yeah, you can beta test it when it's finished.

As for the bosses... not all of them are Kaizo. Some are that difficult, like the final boss, and they'll probably have very different boss arenas eventually, but they're not all meant to be insanely difficult.

Alright, since my last update, I've got a few things:

1. LinksDarkArrows sent his level, although I'll let him explain it.

2. Yoshi987 sent the two levels he'd made, which should be working when I can add them.

3. OGS93 sent a level, and it's working fine.

haha man those pictures look nice...

on a note on completing that pert of my level easier... there is a break where you can swim and get crushed on the right frame on the layer 2 stuff on the edge of the boat... it shoots you downwards.

also make sure that :

outside of the boat - ghost house music

First room - Aria of sorrow Castle music (the one you have for outside the boat at the moment)

2nd room (BOO BOSS) - bowsers inside story final battle music

thanks

also, i know its a WIP, but you may need to up the difficulty on kamek :)
REMOVED
I need to change the graphics for Kamek first. You know, Bullets to magic, make the bottom of the sprite touch the ground as well?

And I'll change the music in your level.

Okay, two new videos:

Bogmire Mini Boss:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gugSUbhVVq0&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gugSUbhVVq0&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Music sucks, but that's what my epic Mad Monster Mansion remix request was for, it would be epic boss music for this battle.

It's going to have more epic graphics and arena, but it's only a mini boss, and comes before the Kamek boss shown earlier with no gap to heal between. Graphics glitch will be fixed when the ROM is finalised.

Oh, and this was the music I was requesting for it:

http://vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/n64/w7BKMansion(Boss).mid

Random Fortress section:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tFoTB6kkux0&hl=en_GB&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tFoTB6kkux0&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I am really impatient.

I should probably now wait until it's done and I add ExGFX before any more updates.

how many worlds are made so far?
Is it normal that all the bosses look small
This hack is looking great. I enjoyed the last video.

Until I get someone who knows ASM to edit the sprite tilemaps, yes the size of the bosses is normal.

Edit: Although the Captain Syrup, Stickman, Kezune, Roy Koopa, Dark Star, Rat, Tatanga, Dark Matter and a few other bosses are that size in their original sprite graphics.

World count? Currently five. Note the word currently, it's gone from '1' to '8' to '9' to '6' to '5' in different points in development. Maybe some of the other people working on it will ever actually return to the internet by summer and more worlds will get made, but you can tell I'm more the guy who likes making boss sprites and castle levels than a level designer.

Thank you. If anyone needs a preview, wait until an LPer plays it. The reason for the bosses is partly because the hacks played by TheRealNinjaBoy, Goron50 and a few by raocow (namely Mushroom Kingdom Melt Down, Scarlet Devil Mario and Randorland 3) are said to have repetitive boss battles, so I tried to avoid that bit in advance.

And because there's an attempt at designing the thing so the future LP videos are more interesting.
