Because quite a few of the files don't say whether they need the NSPC patch or the use of custom samples, and quite a few others I've tried seem to throw up syntax errors when added in certain versions of AddMusic, indicating they were only tested with one possible tool out of the three available.

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.
Much of our older stuff falls flat when it comes to what you have said, actually - as in, we didn't start incorporating the "N-SPC Patch" and "Samples" label until mid-2008 - therefore, many of the tracks there do not have a lot of information given with them.

As for the syntax errors .. we test our files on both the newest version of Romi's and the newest version of Carol's. Those are the two versions everyone should be using anyway (unless you've upgraded to the 2010 release of addmusic_M, in which case we can't guarantee all of the files will work on that). Any other version is either outdated or slightly faulty.

If people encounter files like this though (files with syntax errors, that is), it is definitely encouraged that they report it to us.
So the AddMusic by Perl tool is officially a bit outdated now and certain music doesn't work with it? Thanks, that might explain why certain tracks don't seem to be working correctly.

But a quick report would say that a big example of music that doesn't work for me without removing a whole line is the Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story final boss music. It says there's a syntax error on a certain line, although removing that makes it play nearly well after being added with the AddMusic version I'm using.

AddMusic by Perl (or whatever the author's name was) is outdated, yes, and therefore a lot of "newer" commands won't work on it (Label loops, etc). Upgrade to Romi's or Carol's and everything should be working fine.

As for the final boss track .. I'll take a look at it, and if it doesn't function properly on the two newest addmusics, I'll remove it.
As for syntax errors, the most common ones I see have to do with unnecessary commas in channel headers. Like this from FFV - Unknown Lands:
Code
#0 @0 v245 y10, w255 t50 p20,48

Note the comma after y10. AFAIK it has no reason to exist, and it will throw a syntax error with Carol's addmusic.
