Massive Oil Spill in Gulf of Mexico

Original Article

Quote
This oil spill is on track to become the worst oil spill in history, surpassing the damage done by the Exxon Valdez tanker that spilled 11 million gallons of oil into the ecologically sensitive Prince William Sound in 1989.

This is really bad for everyone on the Gulf Coast. The oil's already reaching Louisiana, and if it gets over here in Panama City, our famous Emerald Coast is ruined.

I'm probably retired tbh
Even though it's bad for the people there, it'll be far worse for the animals there. Most of them will probably die.
Yeah, this is going to be terrible for aquatic life (how on earth could I forget about them?) all around here. Birds are going to get caught in it as well. Really sad... #w{=(}

On track for the worst oil spill in history. Wow. I feel really bad for everyone that is near it and for the aquatic life. It must be really bad for them.

This is really tragic. #w{=(}
I heard about this.

Not only is it bad for the animals and the land, it's a waste of oil.
You know its a kazio hack when theres munchers involed

And this is why offshore drilling sucks.

Really though, I can barely even imagine how it'll affect animal life out there, as if things weren't already bad enough. I can only hope they try to minimize damage as much as possible, but something like this should not happen again.
Results of thiss spill:
1. Death of the marine ecology (or atleast most of it) in the Gulf.
2. If it reaches Florida, the tourism industry will go down (no beaches)

This is terrible. And what's worse is that if I'm correct and this spreads to Florida, the Everglades wildlife will also die. Well, looks like my summer is ruined. I live in Florida.
not only will animals die, TONS of a nonrenewable resource is wasted too. its complete massive destruction of everything.
Your layout has been removed.
One leak has been capped. Let's hope the other two will follow soon.

I hope so. We were going to go to Brownsville this summer. It's where my Dad was raised.

But this would make it all sucky #w{:<}
Yeah - everyone keeps calling this thing an oil spill, but it's more of an oil leak - a gigantic leak of oil from beneath the continental shelf.

That's another thing - the mere fact that we are drilling for oil in the ocean means that all of the oil is close to being gone. Why?

- Oil is produced by decaying organic matter after millions of years.
- Organic matter most often decays in this way only on land (i.e. on continents).
- If we are drilling the continental shelves (the extreme submerged edges of our land-masses), most everything else is likely nearly used up...
- ...because it is extremely costly, and oil companies will always go for the cheapest avenue of profit.

If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
No not the turtles!
We should have used something else from the start. we don't have much Oil left and besides that, all kinds of animals will die. of course there are animals like turtles that are eating the fish covered in oil and being washed up, dead, on the the beach. this isn't going to help the fact their endangered. I hope we find an alternative and good endless or plentiful source soon.

Tower of Disarray

5/?? levels done
-HAHA Oh jeez-
An 'A' press is an 'A' press

Hella neat layout by Erik557
On the radio this morning, National Public Radio had an independent study of the amount of oil leaking, and all of their experts estimated that the amount is more than 10 times what government/BP is claiming is being leaked (5,000 barrels per day). Most of the estimates were between 60,000-90,000 barrels per day. This would make this leak far worse than the Exxon-Valdez Incident.

Actually... No. One fine example is Alaska. Theres still plenty of oil up in Alaska, but drilling is banned there.

Its not that we're running out of oil, its that we're running out of places where drilling is permitted and easy (easy is relative) to do.

Wow, it's rather sad that it took this long for one of the holes to be capped...

Honestly, for the first week and a half that the spill occurred, the only things that really happened was BP and TransOcean blaming each other in heated debates for the cause of the problem while providing absolutely nothing for the effort of fixing it.

It honestly reminds me of a scenario in which two little kids accidentally do something bad, and then simply point fingers at each other instead of actually doing something productive to fix the situation.
Why weren't there plans already in place for dealing with this sort of thing?

Also, I know there are still untapped places on land (such as Alaska) but that doesn't change the fact that oil is for all intents and purposes drying up. Are we really going to drill every bit we can, until there is none left, before adopting new sources of renewable energy?

To the first question, I'd say because hindsight is 20/20 and never doubt the incompetence of those most able to screw things up.

To the second, I'd say... probably. I don't have alot of faith in humanity as a whole. If you want to get straight to the reason, its because doing so simply wouldn't be profitable. Why spend resoueces developing an engine that runs on... well anything cheap to produce and infinately renewable... when you can continue to gouge people for oil instead?

Funny you should mention that, because you make it sound like it isn't trying to be done.
They say there's two weeks left until the oil reaches Miami Beach, I'm going there tomorrow before I won't be able to go there again.
Poor aquatic life. Now let's just wait for the results of it all.
Now I need to change my old avatar. Or not.
