SMWC Idol, 2!: It's over already?!

He's a she, fyi.

Should be interesting to see the results of this one. It's great to see that so many songs were submitted after all.
I feel bad. Mine sounds mehish.
By the way, didn't Counterfeit log in for about five minutes just now? I know it shows him about 5 minutes after his browser closes, but maybe he didn't update the submissions yet. Alas, it would be nice if I won something tommorrow, as it is my birthday, and would be the only present I would get. (Aside from the participation badge)

DANG IT IT'S A HER!

You won't find out if you won until later in the week.

Actually, with so many submissions, the results might be in as late as next Saturday.

Regardless, I hope you do well.
Oh, and I should ask...are we allowed to use .brr samples in rounds 6 and 8, or just Sample Tool?

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.

If somebody actually goes through the trouble of learning .brr samples for this, I'd be surprised. They are however, allowed.
omg really? sweet, im glad i learned how to get addmusicM functioning, brr porting doesnt look very hard from the little you need to get it up and running,
Atma told me to post my scores here :>

Zipped for great justice.
Ooh, scores. I'll take a look in a few minutes, but first I have a few questions about round 6.

1. By 8-bit, are you sticking strictly to GameBoy and NES? Do other 8-bit consoles such as the Master System count? And what about songs that are not truly 8-bit (I.E. not technically designed for an 8-bit system, but 8-bit sounding enough so that it could have been ported to the NES or GameBoy.)?

2. Can we port a song that was originally not on an 8-bit system that was later ported to an 8-bit system? (For example, originally on PC, later ported to NES)

3. How far are we allowed to go with our remixes? Actually, I guess I should rephrase that as "Can we put additional segments into the song that weren't there originally?"

4. If yes to #3, then I have a more specific question. Supposing that an 8-bit song got ported to a more powerful system later on and became longer as a result, would we be allowed to include that added segment into our port?

Sorry for so many questions, but these will determine the song I'm going to port...so yeah.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

Yes

Er...do you mean yes as in "GameBoy and NES only", yes as in "any 8-bit console," or yes as in "8-bit sounding"?

Wow, guys. I really want to thank each and every judge that has submitted there scores. Did I do perfect? No. Did I get first place? No. (Well, to be truthful, I only scrolled down to see how mine did. XD)
But I definitely did better than I expected. Seriously, with about two hours of work, no help except for the "Ultimate Music Tutorial," that S.N.N. and his friends made, and no internet connection at the time, I did pretty darn good.

Thanks again guys. I seriously am considering joing another round, or maybe something else for the community. (Perhaps it's a little too late to jump on this whole SMWC thing)

Oh, and I'm sorry if I kinda derailed the thread.

EDIT: When you guys (Dotsarecool) said my track was missing something, I think it was probably N-SPC Fade Commands.

One of the judges who didn't submit their score yet will probably take off points now that (s)he reads this.

EDIT2: Personally, I think Kristian's comment was the best. (blush-blush)

Wait is Kristian a guy? The name's golden...

EDIT3: I don't know my colors... (Golden=Green)

go right ahead and join another round, i did crappy this round because i didnt have enough time on the computer for this coupled with i finally decided what to do a day before the deadline because the others were falling apart with a rush job, so i settled for something i made a base of before and it paid off by getting an ok score.
My submission was a track I made about 2.5 months ago and didn't really spend time optimizing. It's actually doing better than I thought it would, haha.

Out of all of the entries I've listened to though, there is one in particular that I really hope wins.
I wonder which one that is...?

Well, I've decided that samples are a freaking pain in the butt, including, but not limited to, .brr samples. I was going to use them for my Round 6 port, but I ran into a seemingly unfixable problem. Besides, whenever I use samples, it doesn't matter whether they are chosen by me or somebody else, whether they're in a .brr or a .bnk: they tend to make my port sound worse rather than better, which is the whole point of using samples in the first place. And this doesn't just affect SMWC Idol either; unless I can figure something out soon, I'm going to be put right off delving any further into things like AddmusicM due to simple lack of ability to make good use of them. (Which also cuts my future porting agenda by a good 4 or 5 songs.)

I'm glad to see that the forums are up and running again!

To anyone who's curious, I spoke with Counterfeit earlier today about when the last few rounds are going to finish. She said that while she wasn't completely sure, she assumes that round 7 will end on August 28th, and round 8 will end September 11th.

This was such a fun contest; I hope that forum delay won't kill the enthusiasam!
I'm Just Happy the forums are back up #w{:>}
>R7 = Aug. 28
>R8 = Sep. 11

Just confirmed with Atma that this is when we're ending the future rounds. We decided it's best to retain the space between rounds, so you guys still have plenty of time for your round 7 and 8 stuff.

The judges now have your round 6 entries; please refer to the main page for the song names if you are unsure since I still have not yet wrote the pages for the entries - I'll actually get this up now.

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!
Well, I'll be entering something in round 7.
Where do I submit an entry if I only want the .txt to be seen by only judges instead of everybody?
I'm assuming I'd submit a public entry here.
