well, it might have something to do with the requirements we need :\
for the following weeks, would it be possible to "dumb down" the requirements so more people can enter (something like 'a port that will work for a credits song.') idk, it might be better so more people (including me ^_^) can enter.
if not, i'm sure people will understand. it's just a suggestion.

You're supposed to make a port, not a custom composition.

and although I'm not going to lower the bar for the first round, I will take into consideration lowering it for further rounds.

On page 2 you said that it had to be original, so I guess I was just a bit confused...Well, at any rate, if I can get this port I'm working on now working right I'll definitely enter. Quick question, though: Do we have to use $ED $5C $A9 exactly, or can we use any ASDR combination?

When I said that, I meant that you can't make a remix of the song. Yes, that exactly ADSR value must used throughout one channel of the song.

I have a tiny question about the entry rules, as I'm mildly interested in submitting something. Do I have to write the MIDI file, too, or can I just find a MIDI and put all my work into porting? The song I'm thinking of doing is really complicated.

You can do whatever. I personally made the MIDI for my submission (even though it's one of my favorite songs ever and I know it front-to-back) just so I got an even larger grasp on how it should sound.

Thanks. I did some background checking, and it looks like I have to write my own MIDI after all. Ear-porting, 'hear' I come....

Breaking a 4-month SMW hacking hiatus for this; oh boy this should be fun. Just out of curiosity, will any future rounds involve composing your own music?

Oh, I hope so. I'm better at that than at direct-porting.

Of course, I've never done this before--and I might not do it this time, depending on how my MIDI comes along--so what do I know?

I'm better at composing, too.

But boy, if there are 8 rounds, I'm sure to lose if I decide to enter. I can't port a new song every week....

What does that have to do with SMWC Idol? Furthermore, you won't get a badge because the PiT soundtrack project was long ago abandoned.
