Eagle's C3 booth (SMAS SMB1 hack + Demo)


Welcome to my lair C3 thread.

Having nothing smw-ish to show off, I decided to browse in my folders and show you something from the SMB1 hack I've been working on. Sofar, I only have the first 3 worlds done.

The cutoff in the castle and underwater levels is because of the method I used to make this hack.

Planned for in the future:
-Custom character (Who could it be?)
-8 worlds.
-Reducing the amount of powerups in some of the current levels.
-Remake all of the levels to be sure that blocks & sprites don't become victim of smb1's limits (which at the moment, in some levels happens).
-Move the invisible block & brick block parts in 2-1 to prevent death/powerup loss.


You might be asking: How did you hack SMAS SMB1?

Well, I made the hack in smbutil (with a smb1 nes rom), then ported the levels to the japanese SMAS (Super Mario Collection) with smb2smc.
This is also the reason why there is cutoff in the castle & underwater levels (NES SMB1 only had bricks for those levels instead of floors).


It wasn't that easy to create these levels aswell. Smbutil can't add/delete objects and sprites, I needed to re-use everything in the level and change it into other objects/sprites.
Also, smb1 has a couple of limits which sometimes can be very anoying (objects and sprites not showing up).

Expect the completed version somewhere in the summer vacation.
Else, probaly at the end of the year. Lately I'm kind of busy irl and I started to work on my first serious smw hack, so yeah.

Not going to try this hack out(mainly because I am not bothered to download the illegal ROM file from this illegal site), but it looks very nice.

Good to see someone hacking SMAS SMB1.
Doesn't look too bad. I've never seen a hack of SMAS SMB1.Free counters!
I thought that no one hacked this game, mostly because there are no tools for it. However, you've proved me wrong. It looks like some solid level design, and I like how well it was put together. If this was just with a hex editor, you must be amazing at ASM or coding or whatever you used to do this. This looks like it could be a real nintendo game. Good job!

Awesome! The idea of making the levels in SMB1 and porting them over to SMAS SMB1 was a creative idea. The level design looks fun.

And I'm guessing the custom character is Hatsune Miku, based on the Player Name at the top left.

Thanks for the comments, and yeah the character will most likely be miku.
I'll be replacing luigi with a vocaloid aswell. And maybe even the powerups/toads.

I'm going to do those things at the final stage tough, as I probaly need to edit the palettes then aswell. I'm not that pro at disasembly/hex editing.
And also, I need to port the levels before I begin to edit those things in.
